Athletics placed C Shea Langeliers on the paternity list.
Langeliers launches two homers on his wife’s birthday on Saturday before she gave birth to their first child on Sunday morning. The 28-year-old slugging backstop is going to take some time away from the club to be with his family for the next couple days while Austin Wynns and newly acquired Jonah Heim handle the catching duties.

Angel Martínez (foot) was held out of the Guardians’ starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against the Red Sox.
The 24-year-old outfielder was removed from Saturday’s contest due to inflammation in his left foot — an injury that has bothered him for a while and flared up on Saturday. He was sent for an MRI exam, the results of which are not yet known. David Fry will start in his place in left field on Sunday and will bat fifth for the Guardians against Red Sox’ left-hander Ranger Suarez.

James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • BOS 1st Baseman #40
Willson Contreras is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Guardians.
Contreras has been a fixture in the middle of the Red Sox’ lineup this season and has certainly earned a day off. The 34-year-old slugger is slashing .286/.384/.505 with 11 long balls and 33 RBI over 232 plate appearances on the season. Mickey Gasper will start in his place at first base and hit cleanup against Tanner Bibee and the Guardians on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland.
  • SD Left Fielder #5
Ramón Laureano is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s battle against the Nationals.
It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 31-year-old outfielder. Fernando Tatis Jr. will move out to right field to cover for him while Sung-Mun Song will draw a start at second base and bat eighth against Zack Littell and the Nationals.
  • BAL Catcher #29
Samuel Basallo (shoulder) will start behind the plate and bat fifth for the Orioles on Sunday afternoon against the Blue Jays.
Basallo gave a bit of an injury scare on Saturday as he walked off the field clutching his shoulder after a swing in the ninth inning, but it appears to have been just a minor issue. The 21-year-old slugger has done a nice job at the plate this season, slashing .276/.335/.506 with nine homers and 24 RBI in 173 plate appearances.
  • TOR Designated Hitter #4
George Springer is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles in Baltimore.
The Jays continue to mix in plenty of days off for Springer in an attempt to keep the 36-year-old healthy for the remainder of the season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday while Charles McAdoo will draw a start at first base and will bat seventh for the Jays against Orioles’ right-hander Kyle Bradish.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #40
White Sox placed LHP Tyler Gilbert on the family medical emergency list.
The 32-year-old left-hander will be away from the club for an undetermined amount of time as he deals with a family medical emergency. Chris Murphy was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to take his spot in the White Sox’ bullpen.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #38
White Sox recalled LHP Chris Murphy from Triple-A Charlotte.
With Tyler Gilbert away from the team due to a family medical emergency, Murphy will have another opportunity to show what he can do at the big league level. He holds a 10.50 ERA and 2.33 WHIP over six innings in six outings for the White Sox this season.
  • TB Relief Pitcher
Rays recalled LHP Cam Booser from Triple-A Durham.
The 34-year-old southpaw has been outstanding at the Triple-A level this season, registering a 1.80 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 24/5 K/BB ratio across 20 innings of work. He’ll give manager Kevin Cash another weapon to deploy in the middle innings.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #60
Rays designated RHP Andrew Wantz for assignment.
Wantz just had his contract selected from Triple-A Durham on Friday, but after getting blasted for five runs on two hits, two walks and two hit batsmen in 1 2/3 innings, he now loses his spot on the Rays’ roster. Cam Booser was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move to replace him in the Rays’ bullpen. There’s a decent chance that Wantz slips through waivers unclaimed.
  • TB Middle Reliever
Rays recalled RHP Trevor Martin from Triple-A Durham.
Martin was just optioned out on Wednesday, but he’ll rejoin the Rays’ bullpen with Craig Kimbrel (wrist) landing on the injured list. The 25-year-old hurler holds a 3.68 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and a 5/3 K/BB ratio over 7 1/3 innings in four appearances with the Rays this season.
