Marlins recalled OF Heriberto Hernández from Triple-A Jacksonville.

It’s the first day Hernández was eligible to return from his Apr. 27 demotion. He played in five games for Jacksonville, going 6-for-22 with two doubles and only one strikeout. He figures to resume playing mostly against lefties.

Max Scherzer (thumb) will make another minor league rehab start on Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo.

It’ll be Scherzer’s first game action since receiving three cortisone injections in his thumb during last week’s All-Star break. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is hoping to return to Toronto’s rotation at some point in the second half, but it’s going to take several rehab outings before he’s ready. He’s been limited to just 22 innings across six starts this season due to physical issues. He’s pretty much a non-factor for fantasy purposes at the moment.

Astros activated RHP Ronel Blanco from the 60-day injured list.

Blanco draws the starting assignment for Monday’s series opener against the Marlins at Daikin Park. It’ll be his season debut after missing the first four months working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery. It’ll be his first start back in the majors since last May. The 32-year-old has had moments of fantasy relevance at earlier points in his career, but he doesn’t offer a ton of strikeout upside, and is more of a wait-and-see option in deeper leagues.

Astros activated LHP Bennett Sousa from the 60-day injured list.

Sousa fortifies Houston’s left-handed relief depth heading into Monday’s series opener against the Marlins after missing nearly three months recovering from elbow inflammation.

Astros optioned INF Raynel Delgado to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Delgado heads back to the minors with both Ronel Blanco and Bennett Sousa rejoining Houston’s pitching equation. The 26-year-old rookie has hit .273 (9-for-33) with one homer in 17 games for the Astros this season.

Mets sent INF Zack Short outright to Triple-A Syracuse.

Short went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 31-year-old journeyman infielder went 1-for-14 at the plate across six games with New York.

Bobby Witt Jr. (back) is in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Giants.

Witt is back at shortstop and hitting second after being held out of Sunday’s series finale against the Padres for precautionary reasons due to back tightness. The 26-year-old franchise cornerstone doesn’t appear to be at risk of missing additional time, but back issues can be tricky matters. Fantasy managers should closely monitor his status for the next couple days.

Jeremy Peña (hamstring) is in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Marlins.

Peña is back at shortstop and hitting leadoff following a brief one-game absence due to a right hamstring cramp. The 28-year-old has been limited to just 53 games this season due to an avalanche of injuries, so he was probably overdue to catch a break. Still, fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his health for the remainder of the week.

Christian Walker (hip) is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Marlins.

LaMonte Wade Jr. gets the nod at first base with Walker sitting for the second straight contest due to right hip tightness. The fact that he’s managed to avoid the injured list is an encouraging development. He’s presumably day-to-day for now.

Orioles selected the contract of C Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Norfolk.

Tromp returns for another stint with the Orioles while starter Adley Rutschman is sidelined with wrist inflammation. Samuel Basallo is dealing with a shoulder issue, which means Tromp is likely to see some time behind the plate this week. He’s appeared in 13 games between the Orioles and Braves this season.

Orioles placed C Adley Rutschman on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 19, with left wrist inflammation

Rutschman winds up requiring a trip to the injured list for the third time this season after missing time over the weekend with a wrist issue. There should be additional clarity on his status once he undergoes imaging to determine the severity of the issue. It’s worth noting that Samuel Basallo is also dealing with a shoulder issue, so the Orioles are going to have to get creative at catcher in the coming days.
