Sean Murphy was slated for X-rays following Sunday’s game after injuring a finger on a catcher’s interference.

Walt Weiss said he was optimistic it wouldn’t prove to be a significant injury. The Braves traded Jonah Heim when Murphy came off the injured list, so Chadwick Tromp would seem to be their third catcher once again.

Jackson Jobe (elbow) will be activated to make his season debut against the Giants later this week.

Jobe will draw into Detroit’s new-look rotation following the departures of Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize at the trade deadline when they kick off a three-game series in San Francisco later this week. The hard-throwing 24-year-old was one of the top pitching prospects in baseball in the not-so-distant past and will be making his return to the majors after missing most of the last two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. He’s struck out 17 batters over 15 1/3 innings during five minor league rehab outings. There are probably going to be some workload restrictions down the home stretch, but Jobe is the type of talent that fantasy managers should at the very least be monitoring closely.
Trade deadline moves set to shake up AL East race
The AL East was one of baseball's busiest divisions leading up to Monday's trade deadline, leaving CC Sabathia to assess how the Rays and Yankees stack up following their respective moves.

Mariners activated INF Brendan Donovan from the 10-day injured list.

Donovan is back at third base and hitting seventh against the Tigers on Tuesday night after missing nearly three months with a groin issue that put him on the injured list back in mid-May. The versatile 29-year-old has been snake-bitten by injuries, which have limited him to just 25 games in his Seattle debut this season.

Mariners recalled C Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma.

Pereda returns as Seattle’s backup catcher with the club finally moving on from veteran Mitch Garver. The 30-year-old hit .270/.324/.365 with two homers in 68 plate appearances over 19 games earlier this season.

Mariners designated OF Stuart Fairchild for assignment.

Fairchild went 0-for-1 at the dish during his lone game for the Mariners. The 30-year-old journeyman figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and elect free agency.

    Mariners released DH Rob Refsnyder.

Refsnyder loses his spot on Seattle’s roster with Taylor Ward coming over at the trade deadline. The 35-year-old hit .140 (16-for-114) with four homers and 11 RBI in 53 games for the Mariners this season.

    Mariners released C Mitch Garver.

Garver hit .175/.302/.294 with four homers and 15 RBI in 149 plate appearances this season. He should be able to latch on somewhere as emergency catching depth, if he plans to keep on playing.

Rockies selected the contract of RHP Parker Mushinski from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Mushinski gets the nod to fill the open spot on Colorado’s active roster following their trade deadline moves. The 30-year-old has posted a pedestrian 5.45 ERA across 33 innings in the big leagues since 2022. He’ll operate in low-leverage duty for the Rockies.

Yankees selected the contract of SS George Lombard Jr. from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Lombard is at shortstop and hitting eighth against the Cardinals at Yankee Stadium in his major-league debut on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old top prospect is an outstanding defender, which is the primary reason that the Yankees decided to bring him up for their late-season playoff push. He offers some over-the-fence pop, but is still developing as a hitter at this relatively early stage of his career. He was batting .268/.405/.440 with six homers and 10 steals in 262 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. It may be unrealistic to expect Lombard to make an immediate fantasy impact, but the talent is there for him to do just that. He’s a name to watch over the final two months.

Jordan Walker was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Yankees with right knee inflammation.

Walker has hit a bit of a rough patch at the plate since his iconic performance during the All-Star Home Run Derby last month, hitting .240 (18-for-75) with zero homers in 18 games since the Midsummer Classic. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. There should be additional clarity on his status following the contest. It’ll be Nelson Velázquez taking over in right field at Yankee Stadium in his place.

Braden Montgomery (ankle) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Red Sox.

Montgomery is back in right field and hitting eighth after being scratched from Sunday’s lineup with a skin infection on his right ankle. It doesn’t appear to be a concern moving forward.
