Dodgers acquired OF Alek Thomas from the Diamondbacks for OF Jose Requena.
Thomas was designated for assignment over the weekend so that the Diamondbacks could add top prospect Ryan Waldschmidt to the 40-man roster. Thomas was hitting .181/.222/.340 as Arizona’s center fielder against right-handers. However, he has two years of team control remaining on his contract and was once a top 100 outfield prospect, so it makes sense for the Dodgers to take a gamble. He’ll head to the minors for now. Requena is a 17-year-old outfielder who signed with the Dodgers in January for a $372,500 bonus.

Trent Grisham is not in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Blue Jays.
Grisham will open the contest on the bench with veteran lefty Patrick Corbin toeing the rubber for Toronto in this one. Cody Bellinger is in center field with Max Schuemann in left field.
Temper power expectations for Guerrero Jr.
After finally hitting his first home run of May, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s power outage to start the season could actually be a sign of things to come for the remainder of year, where he could finish with 20-25 home runs.
  • TB Right Fielder #17
Jake Fraley will undergo hernia surgery and miss 6-8 weeks.
Fraley hit the shelf with a hernia over the weekend and is going to wind up missing nearly two months. The 30-year-old will likely be on the shelf until around the All-Star break in July.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #15
Ben Williamson is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Orioles due to back tightness.
Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters they’re not sure whether Williamson will require a trip to the injured list. It sounds like a possibility, which is why former top prospect Carson Williams was brought up from Triple-A Durham over the weekend. There should be a decision on Williamson’s status at some point this week if his back doesn’t respond to treatment.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Braves manager Walt Weiss told reporters Ronald Acuña Jr. (hamstring) could potentially return this week.
Weiss added that it’s not out of the question that Acuña is activated during their current four-game series against the Marlins, but noted that the artificial turf at loanDepot park might lead them to wait to bring him back until Friday’s series opener against the Nationals. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar has been on the shelf since early May recovering from a left hamstring strain. It certainly sounds like he’ll make it back to Atlanta later this week, if not sooner.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Max Scherzer (forearm) threw a 22-pitch bullpen session on Monday.
Scherzer is working his way back from forearm and ankle tendinitis that put him on the shelf back on April 27. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer will need a couple weeks to ramp up his throwing program before he’s ready to jump back into Toronto’s rotation mix. He still offers some appeal as a matchup-dependent streamer in deeper fantasy leagues despite his advanced age and persistent durability concerns.
  • NYY Shortstop #72
José Caballero (finger) has resumed baseball activities.
Caballero expressed confidence last week when he hit the injured list with a fractured finger that he would be ready to return in exactly 10 days, when first eligible. The 29-year-old shortstop appears on track to meeting that goal. However, it’ll depend whether he’s able to grip a bat and swing effectively whether he’s ready to return later this week.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #45
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Gerrit Cole (elbow) could potentially make his season debut later this week.
New York has an opening in their rotation for Friday’s series opener against the division-rival Rays in Yankee Stadium after shipping rookie starter Elmer Rodríguez back to the minors. It’s hardly official yet, but Cole would be making his first start in the big leagues since Game 5 of the World Series back in 2024 after missing all of last year recovering from Tommy John surgery. He threw 86 pitches, while averaging 97 mph on his four-seam fastball, over 5 1/3 innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in his latest rehab outing last weekend. It certainly sounds like a strong possibility Cole returns later this week. He should be rostered in all fantasy leagues.
  • PHI Designated Hitter #12
Kyle Schwarber is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Reds due to illness.
Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly told reporters Schwarber is under the weather and will get some time off to rest and recover. The 33-year-old slugger is arguably the hottest hitter in baseball right now after homering nine times in his last 10 games. He leads the majors with 20 big flies in 47 games. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern and fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #93
Robby Snelling (elbow) will visit specialist Dr. Keith Meister on Thursday.
It’s the first tangible update the Marlins have provided since Snelling hit the injured list with a UCL sprain in his left elbow last week. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect will presumably meet with the renowned specialist to determine whether he’s dealing with ligament damage that will require a surgical procedure. It’s abundantly clear that Snelling is facing a lengthy absence, even if he manages to avoid elbow surgery. There should be a clearer picture regarding his next steps at some point in the coming days.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Zach Thornton will be called up to pitch on Wednesday against the Nationals.
The youth movement continues in Queens. Mendoza wouldn’t fully commit to Thornton making a traditional start, but he’ll factor into their pitching plan this week. The 24-year-old southpaw earns his first promotion to the majors after posting a strong 3.16 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 40/12 K/BB ratio across 37 innings between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse this season. Thornton offers some streaming appeal in deeper mixed leagues but he’s unlikely to generate enough volume to be an impactful option in shallow fantasy formats.
