Blue Jays placed LHP Joe Mantiply on the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation.

No word yet regarding how long Mantiply will be sidelined. The 35-year-old southpaw has pitched extremely well in his Toronto debut with a sparkling 2.04 ERA and 16/4 K/BB ratio across 17 2/3 innings.

Mariners recalled LHP Josh Simpson from Triple-A Tacoma.

He’ll take the place of Luis Castillo on the M’s active roster — at least for a day until Seranthony Dominguez arrives. Simpson holds a 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 3/2 K/BB ratio over three innings with the Mariners this season.

The Padres announced that Kyle Hart will start on Sunday against the Giants.

Michael King had been set to start on Sunday, but he’ll go on Monday instead — assuming he’s still on the team then. Hart, 33, has posted a 4.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 36/13 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings in 28 appearances with the Padres this season. He is not a recommended streaming option, even against the Giants.

Luis García Jr. was a late scratch from the Nationals’ starting lineup on Sunday.

No word yet on the reason for the late scratch, but the Nationals indicated that he will still be on the bench for the game, so it’s unlikely that it’s an injury situation, though he left Friday’s game due to mild soreness in his right knee. The more likely scenario is that the Nationals are discussing him in trade talks and he could soon be on the move. Stay tuned.

Riley Greene is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against Gage Jump and the Athletics.

Greene will get a rare breather on Sunday afternoon with the left-hander on the mound for the Athletics. Expect to see him off the bench against a righty later in the game. Ben Malgeri will start in his place in left field and bat eighth for the Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Sutter Health Park.

Christian Yelich is not in the Brewers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s soiree against the Angels.

The Brewers have routinely used Sunday as a day of rest for Yelich in an effort to keep him healthy and fresh for the duration of the season. Jake Bauers will function as the team’s designated hitter in his place and will bat fifth against Walbert Urena and the Angels on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Twins optioned RHP Jack Anderson to Triple-A St. Paul

With Dean Kremer joining the Twins’ active roster on Sunday, someone needed to go to make room and it looks like Anderson pulled the short straw this time. The 26-year-old righty posted a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 12/3 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings between the Twins and Red Sox this season. He should get another opportunity in relatively short order.

Mets designate MJ Melendez for assignment.

The Mets needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Robert Stock on Sunday and Melendez unfortunately got the boot. He could attract interest from teams looking to add a left-handed power bat to their bench.

Royals activated OF Kyle Isbel from the 10-day injured list.

Isbel returns to take the roster spot of Lane Thomas after Saturday’s trade with the Braves. The 29-year-old outfielder had been shelved since mid-June due to a Grade-3 plantar fasciitis tear. Prior to landing on the injured list, he was hitting .244/.298/.354 with three homers, 11 RBI and five stolen bases in his first 183 plate appearances.

Royals recalled LHP Aaron Bummer from Triple-A Omaha.

With Luinder Avila (forearm) hitting the injured list on Sunday, Bummer will add a fresh arm to the bullpen for at least a few days while the club figures out how to backfill their rotation. Bummer, 32, holds an unsightly 7.63 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and a 13/10 K/BB ratio over 15 1/3 innings in 19 appearances with the Braves at the big league level this season.

Royals placed RHP Luinder Avila on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tightness.

Avila was knocked around for six runs over 2 2/3 innings in a losing effort against the Rockies on Saturday and perhaps the forearm issue contributed to those struggles. No word yet on the severity or how long the 24-year-old hurler will be sidelined for. Aaron Bummer was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.
