Voth has been jettisoned from Toronto’s pitching staff for the second time this season after allowing five runs over 3 1/3 innings during a bulk relief outing against the Orioles on Friday night. The 33-year-old journeyman figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and might stick around with the Blue Jays as emergency depth.

Only promoted yesterday, Veen made his presence known early on in his first game back up with a long home run. He blasted it 104.7 mph off the bat and it traveled an estimated 407 feet, landing directly in the pool at Chase Field in Arizona. There’s no question that he has game-breaking power after smashing 24 home runs in 100 games at Triple-A this season plus he had a 113 mph max exit velocity. He also stole 18 bases, but has bulked up a good bit since being known as more of a speedster a few years back. The question with Veen is more so how the Rockies are going to get him in the lineup every day. In this came, they shifted Cole Carrigg from center field to shortstop to make it work. Then, Veen was pulled from this game in just the sixth inning so Ezequiel Tovar could go in to shortstop and Carrigg back to center. There’s still more to learn about how this situation will shake out.

Romano just keeps stacking up the saves. This was his eighth since being claimed by the Rockies in early July and he’s only blown one in that span. It’s not exactly pretty – he didn’t throw a single pitch that reached 95 mph in this outing and forced just one swing-and-miss – but being the closer counts for something, right? Proceed with caution.

It took a few tightrope acts, but Feltner pitched well enough to win here with ample support from his offense. Still, he didn’t have a single clean inning and forced just six swings-and-misses. He’s only worth a desperation stream outside of Coors Field and is scheduled to face the Dodgers at home next time out.

Hoping to get off the schneid, Carroll’s home run here was his 18th of the season and brought the Diamondbacks to within two runs before their comeback effort fell short. It was also his second straight game with a home run. Before the last two days, he’d only hit three long balls since July 1st and briefly saw his OPS dip under .800 over the weekend. He’s still batting just .188 over his last 30 games as he desperately tries to get right.

Kelly got rocked in what was supposed to be an easy matchup against the Rockies at home. They jumped on him for four runs in the second – three of which came via a three-run shot by back-up catcher Brett Sullivan – and then Zac Veen hit a two-run homer in the fourth. In total, Kelly allowed 11 hard-hit balls and only forced five swings-and-misses. This is now two clunkers over his last three outings after seemingly turning the corner in July with a 1.95 ERA. He’s scheduled to face the Red Sox in Fenway Park next time out.

Mateo presumably received interest from a number of contending clubs after being released by the Braves earlier this week. The 31-year-old’s defensive versatility and speed make him a quality bench option for the Rays heading towards the postseason.

Walcott returns after spending just over one week with on the injured list after being struck by an errant pickoff throw on August 1. The 20-year-old top prospect has homered three times in 13 games since making his season debut back on July 17. He boasts one of the more intriguing fantasy skillsets of any prospect in the minors given his raw power upside and likelihood that he’ll stick at shortstop long-term.

It appears to be a routine day off for Edman, who is hitting just .154 (6-for-39) with one homer and four RBI in 10 games since the start of August. It’ll be Miguel Rojas drawing a start at second base in his absence.

Ballesteros finds himself behind the plate for the third time in nine contests since being acquired from the Cubs at the trade deadline earlier this month. The 22-year-old former prospect’s clearest path to sustained fantasy relevance involves retaining catcher eligibility, which wasn’t going to happen in Chicago. The change of scenery, and return to catching regularly in Los Angeles, make him an interesting fantasy option looking ahead to next season.

Langford receives a much-needed mental break to reset after going 2-for-21 over his last seven games. The 24-year-old fantasy standout was tearing the cover off the ball before hurting his foot back in late July. He’s batted .094 (3-for-32) with one homer and one stolen base across 10 games since the start of August.
