Blue Jays selected the contract of RHP Hayden Juenger from Triple-A Buffalo.

Juenger earns his first promotion to the majors after posting a serviceable 3.15 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 23/8 K/BB ratio across 20 innings for Triple-A Buffalo this season. He also has three saves during that span. The 25-year-old joins Toronto’s bullpen ahead of Saturday’s contest against the division-rival Orioles and figures to operate in low-leverage spots initially.

Daniel Susac underwent an MRI that revealed a left knee patella fracture.

The Giants are going to have to make a roster since Drew Cavanaugh is their only healthy backstop on the entire 40-man roster. The 25-year-old fractured his kneecaps when he fouled a ball off it over the weekend.
Scherzer a good 'gamble' add amid return to form
Eric Samulski discusses Max Scherzer moving into 10th on MLB's all-time strikeout leaders list over the weekend and what his recent stretch of outings means for his fantasy value.

Joey Ortiz (neck) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Padres.

Ortiz sits for the second straight contest after leaving Saturday’s game against the Twins with neck tightness. David Hamilton draws another start at shortstop in his absence. It’s possible he’ll require a trip to the injured list if he’s not ready to go in a couple days.

Kyle Tucker is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Royals.

It appears to be a matchup-based decision with lefty Noah Cameron on the hill for Kansas City. Tucker has shown some real signs of life recently, hitting .298 (14-for-47) with four homers and one steal over his last 15 games. It’ll be Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernández in the outfield corners for Los Angeles in this one.

Bryce Harper is at DH against the Cardinals on Monday due to knee soreness.

Harper is at DH for the second time in the last three games as a return to the outfield has resulted in worsening knee soreness. It doesn’t sound like it’ll keep him out of the lineup, but it’s a situation that fantasy managers should monitor closely. These are the type of downstream impacts that come with a midseason positional change, especially for a veteran who is several years removed from patrolling the outfield on a regular basis.

Angels selected the contract of LHP Sammy Peralta from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Peralta lands a spot in Los Angeles’ bullpen with Shaun Anderson hitting the injured list. The 28-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Angels back in late June. He allowed three runs over 2 2/3 innings for the Rockies earlier this year.

Angels placed RHP Shaun Anderson on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

Anderson has posted a lackluster 7.65 ERA across 20 innings over 12 relief appearances for the Angels this season. The 31-year-old journeyman is probably done for the remainder of the year.

Rangers recalled RHP Ben Peoples from Triple-A Round Rock.

Peoples returns to the big leagues with starter Nathan Eovaldi hitting the shelf with elbow inflammation. The 25-year-old has posted a solid 2.19 ERA across 12 1/3 innings for the Rangers this season.

Rangers placed RHP Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 9, with right posterior elbow inflammation.

Eovaldi was slated to take the ball against the Angels on Wednesday. The fact that he’s dealing with posterior elbow inflammation is a relatively encouraging sign, but fantasy managers are probably going to have to wait for additional evaluation and imaging before drawing any definitive conclusions. The 36-year-old has posted a serviceable 4.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 137/32 K/BB ratio across 132 2/3 innings this season. He’s been a borderline top-75 range fantasy starter on the year. There should be some additional clarity on his status in the coming days.

Adley Rutschman (wrist) is expected to be activated for Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays, according to Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy.

Rutschman will make his highly-anticipated Red Sox debut up in Toronto after being acquired from the division-rival Orioles in a six-player blockbuster at the trade deadline last week. The 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop has been on the shelf with wrist inflammation since July 20. He went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI in a pair of rehab contests for Triple-A Worcester last week.

Diamondbacks activated RHP Michael Soroka from the 15-day injured list.

Soroka gets the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Rockies at Chase Field following a seven-week absence due to a left glute strain. Needless to say, it’s an extremely favorable matchup right away. The 29-year-old was in the midst of arguably his best season since his 2019 breakout with Atlanta, compiling a sparkling 3.07 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 79/17 K/BB ratio across 82 innings before hitting the shelf in mid-June. He should be rostered in all fantasy formats.
