Flores receives the call to back up Endy Rodríguez while starting catcher Henry Davis is away from the club on paternity leave. The 25-year-old went 3-for-15 in seven games with the Pirates last year during his first stint in the big leagues.

He’s not a sure thing to surpass that total this year, but he is going to cruise past his mark of 86 RBI from last year; he’s tied for the ninth in the majors with 77 right now.

Yamamoto struck out nine and sported a 37 percent CSW. It’s the 11th time in 22 starts this year that he’s allowed one or no runs. He’ll make his next start on six days’ rest next Friday versus the Pirates.

The job got done, but Díaz was all over the place tonight and did nothing to instill anyone with any confidence in him. The HBP started the inning and also would have been a walk on a full-count pitch. Díaz rebounded to fan Christian Yelich and eventually got two groundouts without a run scoring. It took him 26 pitches, bringing his total to 50 the last two days, so he’ll certainly get at least Saturday off after this. With Tanner Scott also having worked two straight days, Alex Vesia might be in line for a save chance.

Gasser gave up a pair of homers, but he struck out seven and walked just one while working into the seventh for the second time this season. He has another fairly tough matchup next week against the Braves, so though he’s pitching well of late, he’s a mediocre option in mixed leagues then.

Wilson is day-to-day. Between his finger, his knee and his shoulder, he might be in line for a day off Saturday.

X-rays after the game came back negative. Adam Frazier or Jose Siri will fill in if Meckler can’t go Saturday.

Caglianone smacked a two-run single in the third inning that increased the Royals’ edge to 3-0. He then clobbered a 393-foot (104.0-mph EV) go-ahead two-run homer off of Sammy Peralta in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old slugger then delivered an RBI single in the seventh that tied the score at six runs apiece. He finished the night 3-for-4 and is now hitting .273/.325/.495 with 22 long balls and 58 RBI on the season.

Massey opened the scoring in the ballgame with a 400-foot (103.2-mph EV) solo shot off of Grayson Rodriguez in the second inning. He also came through with a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh that proved to be the difference in the ballgame. With his three-hit attack, the versatile 28-year-old is now hitting .264/.296/.430 with 10 homers, 41 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 337 plate appearances on the year.

Cruz came on with a one-run lead to protect in the ninth and made things interesting by allowing a one-out single to Jose Siri. Not to worry though, as he battled back to get Wade Meckler to ground into a fielder’s choice before retiring Mike Trout on strikes to end it. He appears to have supplanted Alex Lange as the team’s preferred option in the ninth inning and should probably be rostered in all mixed leagues at this stage.

Lugo struck out four hitters on the night and didn’t walk a batter. He cruised through the first two innings unscathed but ran into a buzzsaw in the third inning. The Angels loaded the bases with one out against him when Lugo struck out Mike Trout. Nolan Schanuel followed with a three-run double though and Zach Neto added an RBI single to push four runs across. The Halos added another run while chasing him in the fifth. Lugo got seven whiffs on 86 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll bring a disappointing 4.59 ERA and 1.38 WHIP into Wednesday’s matchup against the Athletics.
