Cal Quantrill left Saturday’s game in the second inning with an injury.

No word yet, but it’s quite possible his back was acting up again. He dealt with tightness and came out after 709 pitches last weekend against the D-backs. Quantrill retired all four batters he faced before being replaced by Jordan Montgomery.

Bryce Eldridge is still “woozy” after suffering a head laceration when he bumped his head at the Giants team hotel Friday.

“Woozy” but not officially in concussion protocol, apparently. Which doesn’t seem right. Eldridge hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday, but there’s less optimism here now than there was after last night’s game.

Giants placed LHP Reiver Sanmartin on the 15-day IL with a right oblique strain.

Sanmartin finishes the year with a 4.22 ERA in 21 1/3 innings for the Giants. He’ll probably be bumped from the 40-man when the Giants have to activate all of their 60-day IL guys next month.

Giants activated LHP Sam Hentges from the 15-day injured list.

Hentges missed three weeks with a forearm strain. He has a 3.27 ERA in 33 innings this season, but that might not be enough to keep him on the Giants’ roster this winter.

Astros placed RHP Enyel De Los Santos on the 15-day injured list with right knee tendinitis.

De Los Santos gave up two runs in two innings last night and has allowed six earned runs in four innings this week, raising his ERA to 4.79. The Astros will hope that a week off makes him better able to contribute in the postseason.

Astros recalled RHP Logan VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land.

VanWey will rejoin the bullpen. He was last up in June and has allowed one earned run in six innings for Houston this year.

Jonathan Aranda went 1-for-4 with a solo homer to lead the Rays to a 2-1 win over the Red Sox on Saturday.

Aranda continues to end the season with a strong month, hitting his fifth homer in September with a solo blast off Brayan Bello in the fourth inning. The 28-year-old slugger is up to 22 homers and 92 RBI while slashing .277/.360/.440 across 648 plate appearances.

Bryan Baker pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn a win against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Baker took the mound in the top of the ninth with the game tied 1-1. He worked around a double, with the runner caught stealing second, then stranded a second batter after Jarren Duran tripled. Baker would be in line for the win after the Rays walked it off in the bottom of the frame.

Freddy Peralta allowed one run with six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Peralta held the Red Sox scoreless through two innings before giving up a run on a pair of doubles in the third. He went on to pitch into the sixth without giving up another run, leaving with one runner on and two outs at 97 pitches. He struck out six. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 4.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 152/60 K/BB ratio across 163 2/3 innings into a start against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.
Brayan Bello

BOS Starting Pitcher #66

Brayan Bello allowed one run with 11 strikeouts over eight innings in a no-decision against the Rays on Saturday.

Bello had allowed two baserunners through three scoreless innings before giving up a solo homer to Jonathan Aranda to lead off the bottom of the fourth. He bounced back with four more scoreless frames, giving the Red Sox eight innings of one-run ball in what was his best outing of the season. The 27-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.49 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and a 90/35 K/BB ratio across 112 1/3 innings. Saturday’s effort might have earned him another start before the end of the season as the team tries to keep its rotation fresh for the postseason.
