Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run with four strikeouts over eight innings in a win over the Angels on Saturday.

Yamamoto gave up one run on two hits in the first inning. The pressure was off after he was spotted nine runs in the bottom of the first. He went on to toss seven more no-hit innings as the Angels weren’t able to do anything against the 27-year-old right-hander after the opening frame. He struck out four. Yamamoto will take a 2.68 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 73/15 K/BB ratio across 77 1/3 innings into a start against the White Sox in Chicago next Saturday.

SD Relief Pitcher #22

Mason Miller struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning to record the save against the Mets on Saturday.

Miller had gotten some work in on Friday, giving up one run in a non-save situation. He was summoned again on Saturday with a one-run lead and held the Mets scoreless, working around a walk with one strikeout to convert his 18th save of the season to go with a 1.01 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 51/12 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings.

Brice Turang went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo homers in the Brewers’ 7-1 win over the Rockies on Saturday.

Turang put the Brewers on the board early, taking Zach Agnos deep for a solo homer in the first inning. He later went yard again, extended the lead with his second solo blast in the eighth off TJ Shook. The two home runs give Turang nine on the season while slashing .282/.405/.486 with 50 runs scored, 37 RBI, and 11 steals across 266 plate appearances.

MIL Starting Pitcher #32

Jacob Misiorowski allowed one unearned run while striking out eight batters over seven innings in a win over the Rockies on Saturday.

Misiorowski stranded two baserunners through four scoreless innings before the Rockies got a run across on an error and a hit in the fifth. He settled in for two more scoreless frames, completing seven innings for the fourth time in his last five starts. He scattered four hits and three walks while collecting eight strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 1.50 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and a 116/22 K/BB ratio across 78 innings into a start against the Phillies in Milwaukee on Friday.

Tanner Bibee held the Rangers scoreless with three strikeouts over eight innings on his way to a win on Saturday.

Bibee put together his best start of the season on Saturday, holding the Rangers scoreless over eight innings. He scattered three hits and two walks, tossing an efficient 54 of 87 pitches for strikes. He struck out three. The 27-year-old right-hander knocks a half run from his ERA, coming into the day with a 4.57 mark and ending with a 4.09 with a 1.23 WHIP and a 63/24 K/BB ratio across 77 innings. He’ll look to keep it going against the Tigers in Cleveland on Friday.
Tatsuya Imai

HOU Starting Pitcher #45

Tatsuya Imai allowed five hits and two runs with three walks and eight strikeouts across five innings to earn the win in a 13-2 rout of the Athletics on Saturday.

This is more like how it was supposed to look for Imai. His famous backwards slider was on point here, forcing 11 of his 16 total swings-and-misses and got some really ugly hacks diving low and in against the Athletics’ right-handed hitters. We would have loved to see Imai be a bit more aggressive with his fastball in the zone, especially after pitching with a huge lead from the second inning onward, but just getting a big strikeout total and win is a huge step in the right direction for Imai. He’s scheduled to face the Royals on the road next time out.
Jacob Gonzalez

CWS Shortstop

Jacob Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Phillies.

What a moment for Gonzalez to hit his first career home run. He launched a 428 foot blast off Phillies’ starter Andrew Painter into the upper deck at Citizens Bank Park to extend his squad’s lead to 6-0. Now, after one week of major league action, Gonzalez is 6-for-19 with four RBI, two walks, and four strikeouts as Munetaka Murakami’s replacement at first base. After years of minor league struggles, the former first round pick credits a change to his swing mechanics that’s helped him find significantly more power. His batted ball data at Triple-A back up that story and he’s an incredibly interesting player.
Will Warren

NYY Starting Pitcher #29

Saturday’s game between the Red Sox and Yankees was postponed due to rain and will made up as part of a doubleheader in Aug. 29.

But not before the Yankees got people in the gates and sold some food. Ranger Suárez and Will Warren were scheduled to start tonight’s game. Suarez will go tomorrow, with Connelly Early following on Monday, but the Yankees have decided to push Warren back to Monday against Cleveland and keep Cam Schlittler in line to face the Red Sox on four days’ rest.

Neck stiffness from trying to hear what Dalton Rushing is saying about him behind his back. Smith was going to sit out one game in favor of Rushing this weekend anyway. Now it’ll be tonight’s, rather than Sunday’s.

Dodgers transferred RHP Tyler Glasnow from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list with back spasms.

Glasnow, who last pitched in a game exactly one month ago, has again been shut down of late, but he’s waiting on approval to resume building up. At this point, a return right after the All-Star break is probably the best that should be hoped for.
