Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team is really encouraged by how well Trent Grisham (hamstring) is doing.

Grisham suffered a hamstring strain on June 12th and was expected to miss “multiple weeks.” He is already performing on field agility exercises, and the Yankees “are discussing whether he will accompany them on their trip to Detroit/Boston.” It sounds like the center fielder may be able to make his return soon. That could mean less playing time for Spencer Jones.
Triston Casas

BOS 1st Baseman #36

Boston Globe’s Tim Healy reports that Triston Casas (abdominal) “is making his way through the early stages of a hitting progression: hitting off a tee and soft toss.”

Healy appeared on the Talkin’ Sox podcast to provide an update on the Red Sox’s first baseman. Casas was recovering from a ruptured patellar tendon in May of last season and was beginning a rehab assignment when he suffered an abdominal injury at the beginning of April this year. It’s nice to see him beginning to swing again, and there’s a chance he could face live pitching soon, but any games the Red Sox can get from Casas this season should be treated as a bonus.
Kyle Schwarber

PHI Designated Hitter #12

Kyle Schwarber launched a three-run homer as part of the Phillies’ 6-2 victory over the Mets on Sunday Night Baseball.

Not a bad encore after his three-homer display on Saturday night. Schwarber walked and scored a run in the first inning before hitting an absolute missile in the second. The ball traveled an estimated 418 feet, which really doesn’t do it justice. Similar to Saturday’s homers, it was a majestic blast which found a home in the second deck. Schwarber is up to 29 homers, four more than Yordan Alvarez for tops in MLB. He’s well on his way to another 50-homer season. If Schwarber manages to pull it off, which looks very likely right now, he’ll become the first player in Phillies history with two 50-homer seasons.
Payton Tolle

BOS Starting Pitcher #70

Payton Tolle allowed three runs on six hits in six innings in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

Tolle struck out two and walked two while throwing 67 percent of his pitches for strikes. He had good command of his fastballs on the day, but he struggled to get into two-strike counts, with just five total whiffs and a six percent swinging strike rate on the day. He couldn’t really command his sinker to lefties, which made it harder for him to get chases with his four-seamer, and while his four-seamer did miss some bats against righties, it was his only pitch that really did so. The rookie will look to continue to iron out the kinks in a tough start against the Yankees next week.
Logan Gilbert

SEA Starting Pitcher #36

Logan Gilbert allowed one run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings in a win over the Red Sox on Sunday.

Gilbert posted 18 whiffs on the day, which was more than any other starting pitcher on Sunday. He struck out eight and walked two while throwing 70 percent of his pitches for strikes. He had good command of everything but the slider today, and the slider was still able to post a solid 13 percent swinging strike rate. The curve and splitter missed plenty of bats in limited usage, and his four-seam fastball was up over one mph, averaging 96.8 mph. He’ll look to keep it going against the Guardians next week.
Blaze Alexander

BAL 3rd Baseman #23

Blaze Alexander went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run in a 12-1 win over the Dodgers on Sunday.

Alexander has been swinging a hot bat for much of the season and has recently taken over the starting third base job from Coby Mayo. The 27-year-old has gone 21-for-48 (.438) with two home runs, nine RBI, and two steals in his last 15 games. He should be added in most formats while he’s swinging the bat like this.
Emmet Sheehan

LAD Starting Pitcher #80

Emmet Sheehan allowed six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles on Sunday.

Sheehan struggled with his command, striking out four and walking three while posting just a 57 percent strike rate overall. He struggled to get into two-strike counts and allowed two home runs on the day. On the positive side, he sat 94.5 mph with his four-seam fastball, so there were no velocity concerns today. He will look to get things back on track next week against the Padres, and we still believe Sheehan could be a solid buy-low target in fantasy leagues.
Zach Neto

LAA Shortstop #9

Zach Neto went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in a 9-7 win over the Athletics on Sunday.

Neto was hitless in the game until he blasted a go-ahead two-run shot off Elvis Alvarado in the ninth inning. He’s now up to 17 home runs and 39 RBI on the season. While his .225/.327/.457 slash line is not overly impressive, he has hits in five of his last seven games, going 7-for-25 with four home runs and seven RBI.
Reid Detmers

LAA Starting Pitcher #48

Reid Detmers allowed five runs on six hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Athletics.

Luckily for Detmers, his offense came alive with five runs in the final two innings to save him from being saddled with a loss. The left-hander struck out four and walked four while posting a 64 percent strike rate. Detmers was able to convert when he got into two-strike counts, and his slider missed tons of at-bats against a right-heavy lineup; however, he struggled to get into two-strike counts, and the command for his fastball wasn’t great. He’ll square off against the Athletics again at home next week.
Nick Kurtz

ATH 1st Baseman #16

Nick Kurtz went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI in a loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Kurtz hit his 19th home run of the season with a seventh-inning blast that put the Athletics up by three runs. The big first baseman has enjoyed a tremendous June, going 21-for-71 (.296) with nine home runs and 20 RBI. His slow first two weeks of the season are a long way in the rearview mirror.
