Chargers placed SS Atari Bigby (groin) on injured reserve, ending his season.

We suspected Bigby’s season would be over considering the 3-5 week recovery timetable. The Bolts have already used the “designated for return” option on Vincent Brown, so Bigby won’t be eligible to return if the club finds a way into the playoffs. Corey Lynch will move into the starting lineup opposite FS Eric Weddle while third-round rookie Brandon Taylor should see his first action of the season as a backup. Bigby, the Chargers’ second-leading tackler, is due a $1 million salary on top of a $500,000 roster bonus in 2013.

Jets released QB Bailey Zappe from their practice squad.

The Jets chose Will Levis over Zappe in what we’re calling “a career-ending blurb.” The 27-year-old Zappe will attempt to pick up the pieces elsewhere.
Can Penix rescue the Falcons' fantasy options?
Michael Penix is set to make his 2026 debut for the Falcons, but can his return revive the fantasy outlook for Drake London and Kyle Pitts? Denny Carter breaks down Atlanta's QB situation and what it means for managers.

Jets placed DL David Onyemata on injured reserve.

The 33-year-old veteran will miss at least the next four games. He came over from the Falcons this offseason and had played 48 snaps in New York’s first two games.

Lions signed S Bishop Fitzgerald off the Steelers’ practice squad.

He’ll replace Avonte Maddox, who heads to injured reserve. Fitzgerald, a 23-year-old UDFA, joins a safety room with Chuck Clark and Thomas Harper that is just trying to hold on until Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch are healthy.

Jets placed WR Arian Smith (knee) on injured reserve.

He’ll miss at least four weeks. Smith had only really been playing special teams. It leaves the Jets with only three wideouts on their 53-man roster following Omar Cooper’s IR placement in Week 1. Tyler Johnson and Sterling Shepard are in line to be elevated off the practice squad for depth in Week 3.

Vikings signed RB Jaret Patterson to their practice squad.

It was foreshadowed a bit that the Vikings would make some sort of transaction in this area after Aaron Jones took a huge workload in Week 2. We’re not sure if Patterson will instantly be up from the practice squad in Week 3, but he’s got enough NFL experience to be able to help if called upon.

The Arizona Republic’s Theo Mackie reports Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur “met [the] idea” of manufacturing touches for Marvin Harrison “with skepticism.”

“I know it’s like, ‘Well, just get some easy completions to get going,’” LaFleur told Mackie. “And that’s fine. You also have Trey McBride, who’s one of the best underneath guys in the world. And there’s only about 60, 65 plays a game. And you’ve gotta run the ball. And you’ve got Kendrick, who works underneath pretty well too. So everyone’s kind of got their role.” In other words; don’t look for LaFleur to bail your Harrison fantasy pick out. If Harrison does get cooking this year it’ll be in the normal flow of their offense. So far that has yielded just four targets in two games.

Brian Robinson (ankle) practiced in full on Tuesday.

Robinson was limited on Monday for the estimated practice session. It seems like he’ll be able to go behind Bijan Robinson in Week 3’s TNF showdown with the Packers.

Patriots placed Mike Onwenu (ankle) on injured reserve.

He’ll miss at least four weeks; we’d be surprised if he played again this season after his leg and ankle bent the wrong way while T.J. Watt rolled into him in Week 2. Greg Van Roten took over at guard for the Patriots, who are not providing Drake Maye with the same sort of consistency up front as he had last year through the season’s first two games.

Chargers signed TE Hayden Rucci off the Jaguars’ practice squad.

The Chargers lost David Njoku and Charlie Kolar to injured reserve, and apparently preferred Rucci to their in-house practice squad players. Rucci will play behind Oronde Gadsden.

Giants coach John Harbaugh said “evaluations were still ongoing” on Jaxson Dart (knee) and declined to comment on his timeline to return.

Harbaugh was scooped to his press conference by multiple reporters saying that Dart was likely to miss the remainder of the season, so he probably didn’t have time to change the talking points. It feels like we’re just waiting on this to be official at this point; the Giants will likely name Jameis Winston their starter on Wednesday.
