Rams selected Wake Forest DL Kobie Turner with the No. 89 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Turner (6’2.5/293) was a walk-on at FCS-subdivision Richmond out of high school, where he redshirted, then played for four years before graduate transferring to Wake Forest in 2022. After walking on at Richmond and earning a scholarship, Turner racked up 16 sacks and 33.5 tackles for loss in four years against FCS competition. While the Combine snub is only average in size and weight, if not a bit of a tweener, he overcomes his lack of arm length by being active with his hands. He has a bit of a bowling ball tendency, where his aggression and activity in small spaces creates more havoc than any single skill or technique. His feet are his asset when it comes to play leverage, as his short shuttle time of 4.49 shows great change of direction in the interior. His evaluation relies on his production at a lower level of competition as he only held a reserve role at Wake Forest. However, his good work ethic and non-traditional path to the NFL will make for a good story and win the favor of a coach once he can get into camp.
