When asked about rookie WR Ted Hurst, Buccaneers offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said, “having a true X is a weapon as an offense.”

Hurst has gotten much attention out of Bucs rookie minicamp as a true X receiver in the offense. Robinson praised the versatility of Jalen McMillan, Emeka Egbuka, and Chris Godwin Jr., but said having a true X receiver is “an absolute threat.” Whether Hurst is a legitimate threat as a deep target or is simply running a go-route as a “sacrificial X”, Robinson seems to like having the option of a tall receiver to stretch the defense. Hurst is still outside the top-three on the pass-catching pecking order in Tampa Bay, but could certainly be worth a dart throw with boom-or-bust upside running outside deep routes as an X receiver.

Titans GM Mike Borgonzi said JC Latham is dealing with a pectoral strain and is day-to-day.

And aren’t we all? The Titans don’t seem too concerned about this injury and he’ll likely come off the active/PUP list in the near future.
Why Texans can secure another 10-win season
The Houston Texans seek their fourth-straight 10-win season, and with stability on defense and belief in rebounding from playoff "indignity," Jay Croucher and Vaughn Dalzell are buyers.

Titans activated S Amani Hooker off the active/PUP list.

He spent roughly four days there, but he passed a physical today. The 28-year-old is expected to be a veteran presence for the Titans’ secondary this year as they break in second-year player Kevin Winston Jr. alongside him.

Eagles signed DT Jalen Carter to a four-year, $152 million extension with $106 million in guarantees.

After the smoke seemed to say that the Eagles were reluctant to sign Carter to a market-setting extension, GM Howie Roseman swoops in and does a deal right as training camp is open instead. Carter looked like a shell of himself at times towards the end of last season as he dealt with surgery on both of his shoulders, but this is a sensible extension assuming that the shoulders aren’t set to be a long-term problem. He was clearly the best lineman on the defense in 2024 and the Eagles clearly expect that sort of play going forward.

Vikings suspended DB coach Gerald Alexander for three weeks following DWI.

Alexander pled guilty to DWI this spring and will now be suspended by the team for three weeks without pay. In a statement release Tuesday, the team said, “We take these situations seriously and believe the disciplinary action is appropriate.” Alexander will be eligible to return to the team August 13.

Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield reported to camp and will put contract negotiation on hold until after the season.

Mayfield had imposed a strict deadline for extension negotiations, one that expired when he reported to camp. That sets him up to play the 2026 season on the final year of his three-year contract with the team, during which he will earn just under $40 million and placing him at 16th in average annual value. Expect the two sides to revisit discussions following the conclusion of the season.

Panthers TE Mitchell Evans (ankle) was carted off the field in practice Tuesday.

Head coach Dave Canales spoke to media following the morning session specified the nature of the injury, calling it an ankle issue. The injury occurred in an 11-on-11 rep early in the day. The second-year tight end is behind both Tommy Tremble and Ja’Tavion Sanders on the depth chart but could work his way into more snaps with a strong showing this summer. This injury does not help on that front.

Colts GM Chris Ballard said WR Alec Pierce is a “week or two” from returning to practice.

Pierce was placed on PUP to begin camp and is reportedly one to two weeks away from returning to the practice field following offseason ankle surgery. Preparing for life after Michael Pittman, Pierce could use as many reps with quarterback Daniel Jones as possible to grow into what is expected to be an increased role in the offense. Pierce signed a fully guaranteed four-year contract this offseason.

Dolphins HC Jeff Hafley said RB De’Von Achane will be ready for the start of camp tomorrow.

Achane’s recovery from a clean-up procedure on his shoulder has progressed well, paving the way for him to be active for the first day of camp on Wednesday while avoiding PUP. Fresh off a four-year extension, Achane enters the 2026 season as a volume-based RB1 in fantasy circles, although there are legitimate concerns considering the plentiful changes up and down Miami’s roster. The Dolphins currently project to be a bottom five offense in the new season, something that could significantly limit Achane’s weekly upside.

Steelers placed CB Jalen Ramsey on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Ramsey reportedly suffered a knee injury during minicamp and will begin camp on the PUP list. The 32-year-old corner can be removed from the list at any point, with general manager Omar Khan stating Tuesday that “it’ll take a couple weeks.” The move appears to be purely administrative.

Panthers CB Jaycee Horn was activated from the Non-Football Injury list.

Horn received stitches on his foot after cutting himself running, prompting the move to the NFI list. Now healthy and cleared to practice, Horn moves to an active status and is set to participate in Panthers camp, with today marking the first day of padded practices.
