Playing out of the penultimate threesome and with preferred lies in effect, World No. 313 Roger Sloan birdied two of his final three holes en route to a 4-under-par 32-34=66 in the final round of the Wyndham Championship to post 15-under 265, and then in his first playoff appearance lost to a Kevin Kisner birdie on the second playing of the par-4 18th in extra time.
The Canadian, who played with Kisner in regulation, birdied 16 and 17 and then 2-putted for par from 65'2" to get into the playoff, and nearly won it on the first extra hole, missing birdie from 12'1". It would’ve been his first TOUR victory in 96 events, but settles for his second top 3 and second runner-up, joining a T2 at the opposite-field Puerto Rico Open in 2019. More importantly, the P2 vaults the 34-year-old from 131st in the FedExCup standings to 92nd, retains his fully exempt status, and reaches the postseason for a second time in four campaigns, first since finishing 93rd in 2019. For the week, he recorded laps of 71-64-64-66, totaled 22 birdies against seven bogeys, and wraps the regular season with nine top 25s in 26 events, three straight, and two top 10s, two consecutive after a solo 6th at last week’s opposite-field Barracuda.
