Playing out of the third-to-last twosome, World No. 221 Roger Sloan fashioned a bogey-free 4-under-par 34-34=68 in the third round of the Sanderson Farms Championship, dropping two spots to T8 on 15-under 201, three adrift of rookie and leader Sahith Theegala (67).
The Canadian was T4 after an opening 66, dipped two places after a 67, and fell another two places today despite a error-free lap and gaining 1.102 strokes against the field average. He’ll play out of the fifth-to-last pairing in R4 with countryman Corey Conners, in search of his first TOUR win in 99 events. On five (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation, the UTEP alum lost strokes off-the-tee for a second straight lap (-0.743), and lost 0.493 around-the-green, but gained 1.865 on approach. He penciled four birdies at holes 3, 9, 11 and 17, two from between 23 and 43 feet, and also saved par at 15 from 11'4", but missed three other close-in birdie chances, including a whiff from 5'8" at the second. At the three-quarter mark, the 34-year-old ranks 10th in SG: Approach (3.656) and 16th in SG: Putting (4.166), though 44th in SG: Off-the-Tee (-0.433).
