Roger Sloan hopes that sleeping in his own bed this week at the Houston Open will help him find some consistency as he makes his third event start.
The 34-year-old Canadian has missed three cuts in five starts to kick off his 2022 season, finishing T-14 at the Sanderson Farms and T-71 in the Zozo Championship and arriving at Memorial Park GC off a missed cut at the Mayakoba “I think it’s really underrated sleeping in your own bed,” said Sloan, who’s lived in Houston since 2009. He also shared a realization he’s learned since contending for his first title last season at the Wyndham Championship, where he lost to Kevin Kisner in an epic six-man playoff: “You don’t need to play perfect to win out here. … At Wyndham, I left a lot of shots out there that week, but if you just step up and just play your game, give yourself the best chance to get out of your own way and show up as frequently as you can, you’re going to compete more often than you’re not. That was really neat to learn.” Sloan, who played college golf at UTEP, finished 96th on the FedExCup standings after making 17 cuts in 27 starts with two top 10s, including a solo sixth at the Barracuda Championship, and qualifying for the Tour Playoffs for the second time in his career.
