Chris Baker is out front at the midway point of the Korn Ferry Tour’s season opener, the Bahama Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay, where he shared the 36-hole lead with Harry Hall.
The 35-year-old Baker, an Iowa State alum, is back on the KFT after two seasons on the PGA Tour. Baker finished No. 15 in the 2019 KFT Finals points standings to earn his first Tour card, but he dropped to 163rd and 200th in the FedExCup standings in 2019-20 and 2020-21, respectively. Baker matched the low round of the tournament Monday with a 5-under 67, the only bogey-free round of the day. In fact, Baker’s only blemish over 36 holes was a double bogey at 18 on Sunday. “The weather was nice. Been here four years now and this is one of the few rounds the wind hasn’t been blowing 20 miles per hour,” said Baker, who’s made just one cut in three previous starts at Sandals Emerald Bay GC. “Any lack of confidence on any tee shot out there, you can find yourself hitting another one, or dropping a ball in a hazard. It’s one of those courses where you want to be sharp. It’s a difficult golf course, and a good layout.”
