Chiefs promoted WR Gehrig Dieter from the practice squad.
It’s a sign the Chiefs don’t expect Sammy Watkins to play. A 2017 UDFA, Dieter’s role should be limited to special teams.

Chiefs signed Alabama WR Gehrig Dieter.
Dieter (6’3/208) bounced from SMU to Bowling Green and finally to Alabama, where he played only one year and managed 15 receptions after catching 94 with ten touchdowns as a second-team All-MAC pick the season before. Dieter mainly played special teams for the Crimson Tide. Already 24 years old, Dieter is an over-aged prospect whose inability to earn a passing-game role in his final college season is an obvious red flag. He also wasn’t invited to February’s Combine. Dieter will likely have to become an impact gunner to last in the pros.
