Following his second PGA Tour win in a little more than six months, Fabian Gomez has reached uncharted territory in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The Argentine defeated Brandt Snedeker in a playoff Sunday to capture the Sony Open in Hawaii, a win that followed his breakthrough title at the FedEx St. Jude Classic last summer. As a result, Gomez moved up 57 spots to No. 55 in the latest world rankings.
It marks the highest career ranking for the 37-year-old, who was toiling on the Web.com Tour as recently as 16 months ago and who opened 2015 ranked No. 248 in the world.
Snedeker moved up 10 spots to No. 24 after his runner-up finish, but his jump could have been even more sizeable had he found a way to convert a 12-foot birdie attempt on the first extra hole. Still, this is the highest Snedeker has been in the rankings since April 2014, as he had fallen as far as No. 63 in the standings less than a year ago.

Other moves included Zac Blair, who vaulted 53 spots to No. 119 with his third-place showing in Honolulu, and Si Woo Kim, who moved up 75 spots to No. 198 after finishing fourth. FedEx Cup leader Kevin Kisner moved up two spots to No. 14 after his T-5 finish, his fourth straight top-10 dating back to last year.
The only move inside the top 10 came from Henrik Stenson, who jumped ahead of Rickie Fowler at No. 5 thanks to some friendly divisor changes. The players ahead of Stenson are Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson, while those below Fowler include Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk and Patrick Reed.
Shelved since August because of multiple back surgeries, Tiger Woods dropped two more spots to No. 422 in the most recent rankings.
