Four Tied in New Zealand

Three Australian professionals share the lead with a New Zealand amateur after the first round of the New Zealand Open at The Grange Golf Club in Auckland.

Peter OMalley, Wade Ormsby and Ben Bunny each shot 6-under 64 Thursday, as did Brad Heaven, who was the leading amateur at this event in 1996 when he was 16.

Heaven flew to this tournament from the University of Toledo where he is a senior.

OMalley won this tournament in 1995. He put together four consecutive birdies on the back nine to earn a share of first place.

Ormsby eagled the par-5 12th, birdied the par-4 14th and then got up and down for a remarkable par save at the par-3 15th to secure his spot at the top

Bunny had eight birdies, including three-in-a-row to conclude his professional debut.
