Seeded 57th out of 64 after stroke play, Doris Chen was a substantial underdog going into match-play of the Girls’ U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. That never rattled her.
Chen, 17, found herself in a heated battle down the stretch to capture the coveted U.S. Junior Amateur Championship title. The rising high school senior defeated Katelyn Dambaugh 3 and 2 despite considerably shorter drives off the tee.
Her stellar short game was more than enough. In the blistering summer heat, Chen kept her cool, nailing a 25-foot birdie putt to seal the championship. We had a chance to catch up with Chen to find out more about her golf game and life off the course.
