Newberry inked a minor league contract with the Phillies back in December and has been cut loose after posting a 3.46 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 15/14 K/BB ratio across 26 innings (19 appearances, four starts). The 27-year-old righty has made 65 relief appearances in the majors for the Royals since 2018.

Newberry allowed eight earned runs in 4 1/3 innings this past season with the Royals before getting pushed off the 40-man roster in June. The 27-year-old right-hander will function as organizational bullpen depth for Philly in 2022.
