Chiefs signed Syracuse WR Jamal Custis.
Custis went undrafted despite 6-foot-4, 214-pound size and going for 906 yards and six scores on 51 catches over his senior year for the Orange. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Cutis gets $100,000 in guaranteed money, which is the most money given to a non-drafted receiver in two years, per Schefter. The Chiefs are likely going to be without Tyreek Hill for at least a portion of the year, so wideout is an obvious need. It was even before Hill’s likely suspension, to be honest.
  • Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline notes that Syracuse WR Jamal Custis met with the Detroit Lions and New York Jets on Wednesday after his Pro Day.
Pauline also notes that Custis had a nice day, running “good routes for a big receiver (6'4/214).” He also notes that both teams have interest in Custis not just because of his ability as a receiver, but also due to his ability to contribute on special teams. He’s a Day 3 prospect at this point, with Pauline giving him a fifth-round grade.
  • Syracuse WR Jamal Custis ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Custis (6'4/214) has decent enough wheels and a nice frame, but NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein has concerns regarding his overall physicality. The analyst notes that the Syracuse product must improve in his hands and his upper-body strength while comparing him to Chris Matthews. Custis will be angling for a Day 3 selection later this spring. At this juncture, Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline grades him out as a fifth-round prospect.
  • The Draft Network’s Trevor Sikkema writes that Syracuse WR Jamal Custis’ draft stock is “way up” through the first two days of East-West Shrine Game practices.
Custis (6'5/213) has flashed both due to his obvious advantages in terms of length and measurement, as well as his ability to work down the field. Sikkema passes along that the Syracuse wideout also showed off nice strength when hauling in a catch despite all kinds of contact during Tuesday’s practice. He will look to keep the good vibes going through the rest of the week leading up to Saturday’s game as he tries to make an early impression on scouts and evaluators.
  • Syracuse senior WR Jamal Custis didn’t “make a strong impact” in Monday’s East-West Shrine Game practice, according to The Draft Network’s Joe Marino.
However, Marino did say that Custis’ 6-foot-5, 213-pound frame “caught my attention.” That seems to be Custis’ draft profile this far. Big and moderately productive, but there isn’t anything about his game that makes him pop off the screen compared to other receiver prospects. As a senior, Custis posted a 51-906-6 receiving line.
  • Syracuse senior WR Jamal Custis picked up five receptions for 80 yards in a 34-18 victory on Friday over West Virginia in the Camping World Bowl.
Custis didn’t find the end zone, but he kept a lot of drives going, and made a couple of receptions that set up scores for the Orange. With the 80 yards, he goes over 900 yards on the season, and he also goes over 50 catches on the year. Custis will be seen in the East-West Shrine Game, and if he plays well in that event, the 6-foot-5, 213-pound wideout has a chance to be a late pick.
  • Syracuse senior WR Jamal Custis accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game.
Custis has some of the most intriguing size in the class (6'5/213), and at times, he’s put that size into good use with a line of 46/826/6 over his senior season for the nine-win Orange. Consistency hasn’t been there -- some of that is due to the system Syracuse plays in, to be fair -- so he’ll need to show well at events like this, and the ability to play on special teams will also be big for Custis.
  • Syracuse senior WR Jamal Custis caught seven passes for 162 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 40-37 double-overtime victory over UNC.
Monster game for Custis (6'5/213), and he saved the best for last, hauling in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Tommy DeVito down the sideline on Syracuse’ second play of the first overtime. A longtime tease, Custis is finally making good on his talent. He’s posted a 32-592-4 line during Syracuse’s 5-2 start. The Orange host NC State next week.
  • Syracuse senior WR Jamal Custis caught three passes for 70 yards in Saturday’s 44-37 overtime loss to Pitt.
Custis (6'5/207) served as Syracuse’s leading receiver for a second consecutive week after catching five passes for 73 yards against Clemson in Week 5. We had high hopes for the senior after he caught six passes for 168 yards against Western Michigan in the opener, but the passing offense has been somewhat hit-and-miss this season and we’ve not yet seen Custis top 100 yards since that contest. Syracuse will be off on bye next weekend, with UNC showing on the schedule after that.
  • Syracuse senior WR Jamal Custis caught five passes for 73 yards in Saturday’s 27-23 loss to Clemson.
Custis (6'5/207) led the Orange in receiving yardage, but this wasn’t a game which saw a ton of passing success from HC Dino Babers’ offense (Eric Dungey did not throw a touchdown in the contest). This was the senior wideout’s sharpest performance since catching six passes for 168 yards in the opener, against Western Michigan. He had not topped 100 yards since. Pitt shows next on the Syracuse schedule as Custis looks to build on Saturday’s showing.
