Eagles signed Georgia QB Jamie Newman.
Newman (6’3/234) was a three-star recruit and one-year starter at Wake Forest before opting out in 2020 (COVID-19) while enrolled at Georgia. During his junior season, Newman had 2868 yards and 28 touchdowns through the air with 574 yards on the ground. He’s a true dual-threat quarterback with the physical tools to be effective on zone reads and scrambles, but his accuracy (60% completion rate) and tardiness on timing routes limit his potential inside the pocket. The 23-year-old didn’t play enough in college to develop the prerequisite passing skills of a high-upside backup, but he’s reportedly a hard worker and can create with his legs if thrown into the fire mid-game. He’s a skill fit behind Jalen Hurts.
