Vikings signed DE Jeff Charleston and waived DT Terrell Resonno.

Charleston adds depth to a banged-up defensive line.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Updating a previous item, the Saints did extend a low qualifying offer to restricted free agent DE Jeff Charleston.
The one-year, $1.101 million offer flew under the radar because the Saints never announced it. The Saints can match all offers for Charleston, but they won’t receive compensation if he leaves.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Saints re-signed restricted free agent DE Jeff Charleston to a one-year, $1.101 million contract.
A former undrafted free agent from Idaho State, Charles finished last year with 10 tackles and zero sacks in 16 appearances. He also contributes on special teams, but will be low on the depth chart if he makes the 2010 roster.
  • DET Running Back
The Saints did not extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents RB Mike Bell, CB Leigh Torrence, FB Kyle Eckel, and DE Jeff Charleston.
All four become unrestricted free agents by next Thursday. After a strong start to last year, Bell fell out of favor when a mid-season knee sprain sapped his explosiveness. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush will return as the backfield focal points, but the team may be in the market for a short-yardage back. One possibility could be Drew Brees’ buddy LaDainian Tomlinson.
