Red Sox released C Jett Bandy.
Bandy signed a minor-league deal with the Red Sox last offseason and hit .208/.305/.327 with three homers across 121 plate appearances at Triple-A Worcester this season. The 31-year-old backstop hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2018.

Red Sox signed C Jett Bandy to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Bandy spent all of 2019 at the Triple-A level in the Rangers organization. He’s hit only .218/.282/.365 over parts of four seasons in the majors.

Rangers signed C Jett Bandy to a minor league contract.
Bandy, 28, batted just .188/.268/.266 in 71 plate appearances this past season with the Brewers, who designated him for assignment before the end of May. He will function as organizational depth at catcher for Texas.

Geovany Soto was scratched from the Angels’ lineup Tuesday with right knee inflammation.
Soto has also been bothered by a bruised thumb. Jett Bandy started behind the plate versus Seattle.

Jett Bandy went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday’s loss to the Astros.
Bandy’s second-inning homer off Astros starter Dallas Keuchel temporarily knotted the proceedings at 1-1. They would actually take a 2-1 lead later in the frame, but the red-hot Astros came roaring back with another nine runs before the game’s conclusion. The 26-year-old Bandy has seen 49 at-bats since being called up to help fill in for Geovany Soto (knee) in mid-May. He is slashing .265/.283/.429 with two homers and 10 RBI in that space. Soto is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday, meaning that Bandy’s days with the big league club are probably nearing their end for the time being, though he could conceivably stick on the roster even after Soto returns.

Geovany Soto (knee) is out of the Angels’ lineup again Monday versus the Rangers.
Soto is currently dealing with some discomfort in his left knee. Jett Bandy is getting another start behind the dish.

Jett Bandy started his fourth straight game at catcher for the Angels on Saturday.
The Angels like Carlos Perez’s defense, but Bandy is more interesting with the bat. The 26-year-old has hit .310/.311/.500 with two homers over his first 47 major league plate appearances and has batted .286/.339/.452 with 13 dingers at Triple-A since the beginning of last season. Given the current state of the catcher position in fantasy, Bandy could potentially carve out some deep league value if he keeps getting regular playing time. The problem is that Geovany Soto (knee) is due back soon, so regular at-bats might be hard to come by.

The Angels are expected to give Jett Bandy and Geovany Soto roughly the same amount of playing time.
The Halos elected to keep Bandy around rather than Carlos Perez when Soto (knee) returned from the disabled list. Soto is 33 and coming back from knee surgery, so it makes sense to give him plenty of rest. It will be hard for either of them to eke out fantasy value in a timeshare, but both players could be worth owning in deeper formats if they can take hold of the job.

Geovany Soto (knee) could be activated Wednesday.
Soto has been on the disabled list since July 17 with inflammation in his left knee. Anaheim will have to choose whether to dump Carlos Perez or Jett Bandy.

Angels optioned C Carlos Perez to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Geovany Soto was activated off the disabled list in a corresponding roster move, and the Angels decided to go with Jett Bandy over Perez as their second catcher. Perez has batted just .223/.252/.349 in 68 games this season.
