Apologies to USC, Wake Forest, Georgia, Notre Dame and Penn State, who made Williams’ initial April cut, but couldn’t crack his elite tier once he began to narrow things down. Now that the 6-foot-5, 245-pounder has his list pared, he can adjust his travel schedule accordingly. Return trips to all five of his finalists are likely. He ranks as Rivals’ No. 10 strongside defensive end for the 2017 cycle.

“I watched Vic Beasley play a lot and I feel like we have the same body type, play quick, and are violent,” Williams said. “I think that’s who I can model myself after.” The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder called Clemson a “perfect fit for my family and me.” Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Friedman notes that Williams “can rush the passer using inside and outside routes” and is “strong enough to hold his own at the line of scrimmage to defend against the run.” Friedman sees him as a potential early-contributor once Williams hooks up with the Tigers in February.
