Valdez

Váldez last appeared in the majors with the Giants back in 2018. The 31-year-old right-hander spent time in the Mexican League prior to signing in Taiwan with the CTBC Brothers last year.

Valdez, who turns 24 in March, had a 2.74 ERA, 33 saves and a 67/34 K/BB ratio over 49 1/3 innings this past season between Class A West Michigan and High-A Lakeland. His control is a work in progress, but he throws in the mid-90s with his fastball.

Valdez was designated for assignment by Detroit on June 1 to clear a 40-man roster spot for Bobby Parnell. The right-hander had an ugly 4.50 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 16/12 K/BB ratio in 20 innings of relief this season between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo.

The Angels acquired Valdez from the Tigers in exchange for cash considerations. Detroit designated him for assignment at the start of June. Prior to the trade, the 26-year-old right-hander held a 4.50 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 16/12 K/BB ratio across 20 innings while pitching out of the bullpen at Double-A and Triple-A in the Tigers system.

We’re waiting for the Angels to announce a corresponding roster move. Valdez has pitched well in the minors this year with a 2.36 ERA over 38 appearances for Salt Lake, Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. The right-hander made his big league debut for the Tigers last summer.

He was one of three pitchers the Angels designated for assignment on Friday. Valdez saw mixed results this season, delivering a 4.24 ERA over 25 outings for the big club. The right-hander began the year in Detroit but was traded to Los Angeles in early June.

Valdez was designated for assignment on Sunday and subsequently passed through waivers unclaimed. He pitched to a 4.24 ERA in 25 appearances this past season. While he did strike out 22 batters in 23 1/3 major league frames in 2016, he also walked 16 in that space.

Valdez allowed two earned runs in a one-inning appearance Saturday in Texas. It was his only appearance at the major league level this season.

The bullpen has dealt with a wide array of injuries this season so the 27-year-old hurler will provide a fresh arm for at least a couple of days. He appeared in 25 games for the Angels in 2016, registering a 4.24 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 22/16 K/BB ratio.
