The Dolphins worked out free agent QB Brodie Croyle.
The Dolphins also worked out free agent G Reggie Wells and free agent TE Jeff Dugan. Miami currently only has Matt Moore behind Chad Henne at quarterback, so a contract could be coming Croyle’s way if he looked impressive at all during his workout. A third-round pick of the Chiefs in 2006, Croyle is 181-of-319 for 1,669 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions over parts of 18 games in his career. He was one of the Cardinals’ final cuts earlier this month.
  • MIN Tackle #78
Bears waived G/T Levi Horn, C Reggie Stephens and TE Andre Smith.
Horn didn’t appear in a game after being promoted from the practice squad last November. Neither Stephens (a former seventh-round pick) nor Smith has ever appeared in an NFL game. With teams now allowed to carry 90 players on their offseason rosters, it bodes poorly for any veteran’s NFL future when they’re cut loose in May.
  • FA Tight End
Bears placed TE Kyle Adams (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.
A rookie blocker and special teamer, Adams was active for all eight of the Bears’ games, but had yet to register a catch or tackle. He should compete for a roster spot next summer.
  • ATL Wide Receiver
Saints declared WR Lance Moore, CB Leigh Torrence, LB Jonathan Casillas, OL Seth Olsen, TE Tory Humphrey, TE John Gilmore, and DE Turk McBride for the Wild Card round versus the Lions.
Moore was ruled out on Friday, hardly a positive sign for his chances of a return next week should the Saints advance. Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson will pick up snaps as legit starters for the fantasy playoffs in a game that features an over/under of 59 points.
  • FA Tight End #87
Jaguars placed Brett Brackett (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
During his first official practice with the Jaguars, Brackett sustained a serious knee injury. The pass-catching tight end will need to regain full speed and burst before he can hope for a 2013 roster spot. The Jags re-signed Colin Cloherty to take Brackett’s roster spot.
  • FA Running Back
Fourth-round TE Evan Rodriguez is battling Kyle Adams for the No. 3 tight end spot.
Starter Kellen Davis and blocker Matt Spaeth are on top of the depth chart. Through three preseason games, the athletic Rodriguez has operated at tight end, H-back and as a special teamer. He has three catches for 49 yards.
  • FA Tight End
    Bears waived TE Kyle Adams.
An H-back type and former undrafted free agent out of Purdue, Adams became expendable when the Bears acquired Dante Rosario from the Cowboys.
  • FA Tight End
    Bucs signed TE Kyle Adams.
The Bucs have lost tight ends Luke Stocker, Nate Byham and Tom Crabtree to season-ending injuries this season. Adams will step right in as a blocking complement to pass-catching rookie Tim Wright. The ex-Bear had four catches in 24 career games with Chicago.
  • JAC Defensive Lineman #59
Broncos waived LB Jammie Kirlew, WR Alric Arnett, TE Nathan Overbay, LB Johnny Williams, OT Paul Duncan, and TE Kory Sperry.
Kirlew is the best bet for the practice squad out of this group. He was a seventh-round pick in April’s draft, but was outplayed by undrafted rookie Kevin Alexander. Duncan, another undrafted free agent, played at Notre Dame.
  • DEN Wide Receiver #13
Steelers signed WR Tyler Grisham, K Swayze Waters, OT Kyle Jolly, LBs Chris Ellis and Chris McCoy, and TE Eugene Bright to reserve/future contracts.
Most of these players ended the year on Pittsburgh’s practice squad, although so far FB Frank “The Tank” Summers, S Da’mon Cromartie-Smith, and DL Ra’Shon Harris have been omitted. Grisham went undrafted out of Clemson two Aprils ago after catching 37 passes as a senior. He’s only a special teams prospect.
