The Jets are waiting to see if he needs surgery. If he doesn’t, Thomas would still be sidelined multiple weeks. The UDFA is headed to injured reserve.

Thomas logged 35 defensive snaps before going down with a torn labrum early last season. He could revert to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Thomas (6'4/286) made 30 starts for the Spartans -- 14 at defensive tackle, 13 at defensive end, and three at fullback. He recorded 9.5 career tackles for loss, six sacks, and seven pass breakups. A former linebacker and running back, Thomas showed his athleticism in Indy with a 4.98 forty and 35-inch vertical. Thomas’ weak college productivity is a concern, but he is a high-energy, versatile defensive lineman in a league seeking those players out. He has a shot to work his way into a rotation.
