    Jaguars released LB Leon Jacobs.
Jacobs, who spent most of 2020 on IR, opened training camp on the active/PUP list. The release saves only $920K and leaves $22K in dead money. Jacksonville is moving forward with K’Lavon Chaisson and Lerentee McCray at the SAM linebacker spot. Jacobs, 26, will need to prove he’s over last year’s torn ACL to resurface with another team before Week 1.

  • FA Linebacker #48
Jaguars placed LB Leon Jacobs (knee) on injured reserve.
Jacobs was initially injured after he got his cleats stuck in the ground in Week 3 against the Dolphins. It’s unclear if he’ll miss the rest of the season. The 24-year-old has played 68 snaps through Jacksonville’s first three games.

SLB Leon Jacobs was forced from Jaguars’ Week 3 game against the Dolphins with a right knee injury and will not return.
Jacobs’ leg got stuck in the ground awkwardly, and he immediately required the assistance of a cart. It had the looks of a potentially season-ending injury. The 2018 seventh-rounder had played 68 snaps through Weeks 1 and 2.

Jaguars selected Wisconsin LB Leon Jacobs with the No. 230 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Jacobs (6’1/246) shuttled between inside and outside linebacker, fullback, and special teams in Madison, settling in at outside ‘backer as a fifth-year senior and tallying 9.5 tackles for loss with 3.5 sacks. Jacobs was far from a dominant collegiate, but he turned heads with 78th-percentile athletic results in Indy, including a ridiculous 4.48 forty. Jacobs’ NFL ticket is going to be on special teams, but there may be opportunity for him to become more down the line.

Seventh-round rookie Leon Jacobs is expected to be the Jaguars’ starting strong-side linebacker.
Jacobs has evidently “drawn praise from teammates and coaches for picking up the defense quickly.” The Jags’ hole on the strong-side opened up after Paul Posluszny retired, locking Myles Jack into the middle. Jacobs was known more as an athlete than producer coming out of Wisconsin.
