Mississippi State sophomore WR Lideatrick Griffin and redshirt senior K Brandon Ruiz will both be sidelined for Saturday’s game against Tennessee State.
Griffin (5'10/180) will miss a third consecutive game due to injury. The Bulldogs don’t lack for options at wide receiver, which has helped account for the absence of the sophomore talent. It’s worth noting that Griffin was also a threat as a kick returner, with the sophomore running one back 100 yards in a win over NC State. As for Ruiz, he missed both of his field goal attempts in a November 6 loss to Arkansas, and did not play in last weekend’s win over Auburn.

Mississippi State received a verbal commitment from four-star ATH Lideatrick Griffin.
Griffin is a recommit for the Bulldogs, as he had previously committed in April before backing off the pledge in May. Sounds like he didn’t find the grass greener on the other side, and he’s back as a commit for Mississippi State. He’s considered one of the best athletes in the class, ranking 13th in that designation for 247Sports in their composite rankings. He’s expected to be a wideout, and the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Griffin should provide some speed for the Bulldogs when he enrolls in 2020.

Four-star 2020 ATH Lideatrick Griffin has decommitted from Mississippi State.
Griffin had committed to the Bulldogs back in November, but he’s decided to open things up. It’s certainly not uncommon for a prospect to reconsider after a verbal commit; especially one who does so nearly two years before he’d be able to enter school. That being said, it’s a big loss for the Bulldogs’ class, as Griffin is ranked the third best player in the state of Mississippi, and 13th among all athletes in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Mississippi State received a verbal commitment from three-star 2019 ATH Lideatrick Griffin.
Griffin (5'10/175) opted in with Mississippi State over Auburn. Rivals analyst Chad Simmons writes of the three-star athlete (he’s a likely receiver in college), “Griffin is a playmaker. He is a real weapon with the ball in his hands due to his quickness and ability to make defenders miss in one-on-one situations.” The analyst adds that Griffin’s skill-set should play well in Mississippi State HC Joe Moorehead’s offense once he hits campus in Starkville.
