Diamondbacks signed INF Luis Jimenez to a minor league contract.
The 32-year-old hasn’t appeared in a major league game since the 2015 season. Since then, he has bounced around from the Korean Baseball Organization and the Mexican League before landing in Japan for 2019 where he slashed .234/.299/.385 with five bombs and 23 RBI in 67 games. He’s nothing more than minor league depth for the D’Backs.

Angels optioned INF Luis Jimenez to Triple-A Salt Lake.
He’s being sent down to make room for the arrival of Chris Nelson. Jimenez got off to a hot start this season but cooled off considerably since.
  • LAA Shortstop
Luis Rodriguez and Luis Jimenez have not yet arrived in Angels camp due to visa issues.
It’s unfortunate especially for Rodriguez, as he actually has a pretty decent shot to win a utility job. That said, their absence shouldn’t drag on too long.
  • LAA Shortstop
Luis Rodriguez and Luis Jimenez have reported to Angels’ camp.
The two had been dealing with visa issues. Jimenez is expected to begin the season in the minors, but Rodriguez has a shot to win a bench job with the Halos.
  • LAD Third Base Coach
Alberto Callaspo (calf) might require a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
Callaspo hasn’t played since Thursday because of tightness in his right calf. If he doesn’t make ample improvement early this week, the Angels will have no choice. Luis Jimenez has been handling the hot corner.

Alberto Callaspo (calf) is out of the Angels’ lineup for the fourth straight game on Monday.
Callaspo hasn’t played since Thursday because of tightness in his right calf. He’s still listed on the lineup card as an extra, so the Angels aren’t placing him on the disabled list yet. They likely can’t go short-handed much longer, though. Luis Jimenez is playing third base again Monday.

Alberto Callaspo (calf) is feeling better but doesn’t expect to be activated until the Angels return home late next week.
Callaspo is eligible to be activated on Saturday, but obviously he won’t be ready at that time. Luis Jimenez will continue to man the hot corner for the Halos for the next week.
