Goodman

A 6-foot-4, 276-pound power end out of Clemson, Goodman projects as a strong-side run defender on early downs who could potentially assist Atlanta’s interior pass rush in nickel formations. He’ll open training camp competing with Kroy Biermann for snaps across from Osi Umenyiora. Goodman is unlikely to start as a rookie, but he has upside to be a first-team left end down the road.

Goodman (6-foot-3 5/8, 276) registered 21.5 career tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and four forced fumbles as a 28-game starter for the Tigers. He ran 4.87 at the Combine with a 1.65 ten-yard split and 31.5-inch vertical. Though not explosive off the snap, Goodman is an incredibly long-armed (36 3/8") power player who drew pre-draft interest from 3-4 teams as a five-technique end and 4-3 teams as a base left end. He’ll play the latter with the Falcons and does fit Mike Nolan’s tendency to switch up his fronts.

Goodman is entering his fourth season as a former fourth-round pick. He’s appeared in 34 career games but has yet to register a sack in the NFL.

DE Cliff Matthews and C/G Trevor Robinson were waived to make room. Goodman is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2013.

A 2013 fourth-rounder of the Falcons, Goodman was part of final cuts last summer and spent one week of the season on the Seahawks’ roster before spending another two weeks in December with Atlanta. He’s a camp body.

Goodman, a 2013 fourth-round pick, has appeared in 30 games for the Falcons, starting 10 last season, but has zero career sacks. He’ll compete for a roster spot this summer after the Falcons added O’Brien Schofield and Adrian Clayborn.

Goodman strained his knee at minicamp in June and likely went under the knife shortly after. He’s been rusty to start training camp and is just “now starting to round into form.” Goodman is squarely on the roster bubble.

Goodman has a chance to start in the Falcons’ base defense if he can establish himself in training camp and will likely be used as a strong-side end on early downs. He’s part of a defensive line rotation that includes Kroy Biermann, Jonathan Massaquoi, and fifth-round pick Stansly Maponga.
