Minnesota redshirt junior C John Michael Schmitz is among the 33 players who will miss Saturday’s game at Nebraska due to undisclosed reasons.
The Golden Gophers have been hit hard by absences on both lines, with Schmitz (6'4/315) and G Axel Ruschmeyer both having been ruled out. Also among the players sidelined are starting NT Micah Dew-Treadway, and tight ends Jake Paulson, Ko Kieft and Bryce Witham. Earlier in the week, HC P.J. Fleck said that his team would be down at least 20 players due to COVID-19 concerns, and with there also being “standard” injuries to take into consideration the Gophers are down a total of 33.

  • According to Andy Greder of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, Minnesota redshirt senior DT Micah Dew-Treadway has been granted a second season of eligibility by the NCAA.
Dew-Treadway (6'4/300) didn’t waste much time making an impression at Minnesota, as he cemented himself as one of the team’s top defensive linemen during spring practice. And now that he’ll have a second year of eligibility instead of just one, that’s even bigger for the Golden Gophers. Dew-Treadway struggled to earn reps at Notre Dame due to the team’s depth at the position, accounting for just two total tackles in 2018.
  • Redshirt senior DT Micah Dew-Treadway transferred from Notre Dame to Minnesota.
Dew-Treadway took a visit to Minnesota on Saturday, and he must have liked what he saw, as he’s already made the leap. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound defender didn’t play much with Notre Dame -- he appeared on just 140 snaps last year -- but Minnesota has openings at the defensive tackle position, and Dew-Treadway should be considered among the favorites to win one of those starting jobs.
  • Notre Dame redshirt junior DT Micah Dew-Treadway will take an official visit to Minnesota.
Dew-Treadway announced he was transferring as a graduate after the loss to Clemson in the Cotton Bowl Classic. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound defender didn’t get much playing time with the Irish, but that’s largely due to the wealth of depth Notre Dame has had on the defensive line.
  • Notre Dame redshirt junior DT Micah Dew-Treadway is transferring.
Dew-Treadway (6'4/300) will be eligible in 2019 as a grad transfer, but it’s unclear where he will play his final collegiate season. The redshirt junior is a former three-star recruit who played 140 snaps this past season. Dew-Treadway will likely be a full-time player at most other schools.
