The Mavericks have signed Tyler Smith to a two-way contract and waived Miles Kelly.
The 33rd overall pick of the Bucks in the 2024 draft, Smith is back in the NBA after appearing in 19 games for the G League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers this season. Adding him to the roster gives Dallas a little more depth in the frontcourt, although this move is not likely to affect fantasy basketball. To free up a two-way slot for Smith, the Mavericks have waived Miles Kelly.

Naji Marshall (finger) is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Thunder.
While Marshall did have to exit Friday’s loss to the Grizzlies briefly after banging heads with Memphis’ Javon Small, a finger contusion is why he’s on the injury report for Sunday. Given how shorthanded the Mavericks are, his absence would have a noticeable impact on the team’s rotation. AJ Johnson and Miles Kelly could pick up additional minutes off the bench if Marshall can’t play.

Caleb Martin (back) is out for Friday’s game against the Grizzlies.
The writing was on the wall when Martin was downgraded to doubtful earlier Friday evening. With Klay Thompson also out, the Mavericks have made two-way contract wing Miles Kelly active for the matchup with Memphis. As for fantasy value, Naji Marshall and Khris Middleton receive boosts due to Dallas’ depleted roster.

Caleb Martin (back) is doubtful for Friday’s game against the Grizzlies.
Initially questionable for Friday’s game, Martin is on track to sit due to a sore lower back. Due to how shorthanded the Mavericks are on track to be on the wings, rookie Miles Kelly may play rotation minutes. However, he would not be worth the streaming risk. Khris Middleton and Naji Marshall are available and can be slotted into fantasy lineups.
  • DAL Guard #31
Klay Thompson (knee) is out for Wednesday’s game against the Timberwolves.
Thompson, who only played 14 minutes in Saturday’s loss to the Lakers, will miss Wednesday’s game with a sore left knee. Since Sunday’s game against the Bucks was postponed, this will be the first game the veteran sharpshooter has missed with the injury. While Miles Kelly may play a few minutes off the bench, there’s no need to stream him.

Klay Thompson (knee) is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bucks.
Thompson only played 14 minutes in Saturday’s loss to the Lakers, the least he’s played in a game since New Year’s Day. The doubtful tag suggests the veteran guard won’t be available on Sunday, potentially leading to rookie Miles Kelly playing rotation minutes. There’s no need to stream him in redraft leagues.
  • DAL Guard #10
Brandon Williams (illness) is out for Monday’s game against the Nets.
Williams will miss a second consecutive game due to illness. His absence means that Jaden Hardy will likely be part of the rotation, with rookie Miles Kelly possibly getting extended run as well.
  • DAL Guard #10
Brandon Williams (illness) is doubtful for Monday’s game against the Nets.
After exiting Thursday’s game against the Jazz with an illness, Williams did not play in Saturday’s loss to the Bulls. With the doubtful tag, he likely misses a second game. Jaden Hardy and rookie Miles Kelly played rotation minutes in Chicago, and they may have to do so again on Monday.
  • DAL Shooting Guard
Miles Kelly tallied 17 points (6-of-12 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and three three-pointers in Thursday’s win over the Lakers.
Dallas’ starting guards in Thursday’s summer opener are on two-way contracts, and both shone against the Lakers. Kelly supplemented Ryan Nembhard’s excellent night with a solid performance, shooting 50 percent from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Unlike Nembhard, Kelly does not play a position where the Mavericks need bodies, making his task of earning NBA minutes as a rookie more challenging. However, he made a positive impression on the team’s decision-makers with his effort against the Lakers.
  • DAL Shooting Guard
Mavericks signed SG Miles Kelly to a two-way contract.
Kelly spent the first four seasons of his college career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Auburn. Helping lead the Tigers to the Final Four, he averaged 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this past season. Kelly is an athletic guard who shot nearly 38 percent from three as a redshirt senior. He’s likely to spend considerable time in the G League this season.
