The Nationals put de los Santos on waivers to make room for Reynaldo Lopez on the 40-man roster and the Reds quickly pounced. The 23-year-old appeared in two games with the Nationals last season and owns a 3.67 ERA and 39/23 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season.

It’s the second time since July that de los Santos has been picked up via waivers. The soon-to-be 24-year-old held a 2.81 ERA with over a strikeout per inning between Double- and Triple-A this season and spent a brief time in the majors the last two years.

The 23-year-old de los Santos was acquired off waivers from the Nationals in mid-July. He had a 2.81 ERA this year in the minors, but control remains a serious problem.

The Angels also DFA’d Blake Parker and Jose Valdez. De los Santos was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati last month. The right-hander compiled an 11.12 ERA over five major league appearances this past season.

The 24-year-old right-hander pitched reasonably well between Double- and Triple-A this past season, but was rocked to the tune of an 11.12 ERA in five appearances at the major league level.

The 22-year-old was sporting a 2.65 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 35/7 K/BB ratio in 37 1/3 innings this season with Double-A Harrisburg. He should do well in middle relief role initially and has the potential of a late-inning guy.

De Los Santos has some upside as a reliever, but the 23-year-old could use some more seasoning. He’ll be up at some point this season.
