Orioles acquired catcher Adam Donachie and cash from the Phillies for RHP Alfredo Simon.
Both players were selected in Thursday’s Rule 5 draft. Donachie was one of the weaker picks in the draft after hitting .247/.352/.382 in 304 at-bats between Single-A High Desert and Double-A Wichita last season. The Orioles aren’t going to carry three catchers, and it’s doubtful that Donachie will beat out Paul Bako for a job.
  • Phillies picked catcher Adam Donachie from the Royals in Thursday’s Rule 5 draft.
Perhaps the most surprising pick of the day. Donachie, 22, hit .247/.352/.382 in 304 at-bats in the minors last season. Most of his production came at the offensive paradise known as Single-A High Desert, and he batted just .191 after moving up to Double-A. The Phillies need catching help, but they can do better.
  • Orioles returned Rule 5 pick Adam Donachie to the Royals.
Donachie was 5-for-19 with a home run this spring. The 23-year-old is a future backup at best.
