Marlins reassigned LHP Justin King, RHP Josh Ekness, and OFs Mathew Etzel, Brendan Jones, and Andrew Pintar to minor league camp.
None of the players are on the 40-man roster or rank inside Miami’s Top 30 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline. Pintar did have a solid 2025 season, posting a .269/.338/.384 slash line with 23 steals in 84 Triple-A games, and Etzel, who came over from the Rays for Nick Fortes, hit .275/.367/.363 in 31 games at Triple-A last season as well.

Marlins OF prospect Andrew Pintar went 4-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI and one run scored for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.
The speedy centerfielder is off to his best start in a professional season, slashing .315/.357/.348 in 28 games at Triple-A with 10 steals. He doesn’t hit for much power and is striking out more than he ever has before, so it’s fair to wonder if this lasts, but he did steal 24 bases last year in 102 games, so he could be a deep league option for speed alone if he were to get the call to come up to Miami at any point.

Andrew Pintar went 2-for-5 and hit a grand slam for Peoria of the AFL on Saturday.
The Marlins got Pintar as the second player along with Deyvison De Los Santos in the A.J. Puk deal with the Diamondbacks. A 2022 fifth-round pick, Pintar struggled mightily with his two Double-A teams this year, hitting just .190/.287/.239 in 191 plate appearances. He was very successful before that, though, batting .304/.403/.516 in 254 PA for high-A Hillsboro, and he’s bounced back somewhat in the AFL, coming in at .286/.368/.381 in 20 games. He’s also 30-for-31 stealing bases if one combines the minor league and the AFL seasons. He’s going to need to find some more pop to make it in the big leagues, but the raw strength is there.

Andrew Pintar was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Marlins in a three-player deal.
Pinter, a 2022 fifth-round pick out of BYU, was hitting .285/.384/.468 in 309 plate appearances in the minors this season, with most of those at-bats coming in high-A ball. He’s fast and he’s a legitimate center fielder, but he’ll need to take a couple of steps forward in order to project as a regular.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #35
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Diamondbacks are finalizing a trade with the Marlins for left-hander A.J. Puk.
It’ll be slugging prospect Deyvison De Los Santos heading to Miami along with minor league outfielder Andrew Pintar. It’s a phenomenal landing spot for Puk to settle in as a high-leverage complement to veteran stopper Paul Sewald. The 29-year-old southpaw has been a revelation in relief over the last few months since moving to a full-time relief role back in mid-May, compiling a sparkling 2.08 ERA and 33/6 K/BB ratio across 30 1/3 innings (28 appearances). Meanwhile, the Marlins pick up an extremely intriguing power-hitting prospect in De Los Santos, who boasts a stratospheric 1.011 OPS with 28 homers in 87 games this season between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno. The biggest question he’ll need to answer for fantasy managers is whether his plate skills are strong enough to survive at the highest level.
