Acevedo

The Cubs signed Acevedo to a major league contract last winter but he wound up missing most of the season with a torn ACL. He’ll now have to earn his way back onto the 40-man roster.

The 26-year-old was outrighted off of the 40-man roster earlier in the month but has decided to return to the Cubs on a minor league deal. He missed most of the 2016 season due to a torn ACL, throwing a total of just five innings at Double-A Tennessee.

Signed to a minor league deal over the winter, Acevedo put up a 7.20 ERA across six appearances for Double-A Tennessee.

Acevedo will act as organizational relief depth for Arizona. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 3.88 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 147/102 K/BB ratio in 157 2/3 career minor league innings.

Acevedo posted a promising 2.59 ERA in 59 innings this past season between High-A Tampa, Double-A Trenton, and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre -- affiliates of the Yankees. The 25-year-old former infield prospect became a minor league free agent earlier this month and found himself a major league deal. He’ll be in the running for a bullpen job next spring in Cubs camp.
