The deal is worth a reported $3.5 million. The signing won’t become official until after July 2 and will cost the Astros about $7 million after fees. The 22-year-old collected a .238 average in 91 Cuban League games before defecting to the Dominican Republic eight months ago. He’s played both shortstop and second base in his career.

Anibal Sierra went 2-for-2 and belted a grand slam in a 6-6 Grapefruit League tie game against the Marlins on Saturday.
Sierra’s blast off reliever Jumbo Diaz capped a six-run, ninth-inning rally that tied the game. It was a nice moment for the 24-year-old minor leaguer. He spent last season batting .196 with six homers and 31 RBI in 104 games at Single-A Buies Creek.
