Red Sox released outfielder Benny Agbayani.
Agbayani is a useful player, but there was no room for him on the Red Sox roster. He could land a reserve job elsewhere.
  • Reds reassigned outfielder Benny Agbayani to minor league camp.
The Reds wanted Agbayani for insurance. He’ll play regularly in Triple-A.
  • Reds signed outfielder Benny Agbayani to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The Reds didn’t have to make a trade in order to get the extra bat they were looking for. Agbayani will get a chance to make the team out of spring training, but he may only stick around until Russell Branyan returns. He’s not worth drafting in NL-only leagues.
  • Royals purchased outfielder Benny Agbayani from the Reds.
Mixed feelings here. Agbayani deserves a job and should be able to help the Royals off the bench. The downside is that he could take at-bats away from Dee Brown, who doesn’t seem to be getting any respect from the Royals even though he’s having an outstanding spring (.346, .712 SLG). Agbayani probably won’t be worth a buck in AL-only leagues.
