Braves sent outfielder Bill McCarthy outright to Triple-A Richmond.

McCarthy seemed to be developing into a pretty good fourth-outfielder candidate a year ago, but he got hurt and ended up hitting just .226/.295/.339 in 66 games for Richmond last season. There’s still a chance he could become useful, but he’s due for another season in Triple-A.

Billy McCarthy went 6-for-6 with a home run yesterday in Triple-A Richmond’s 16-8 win over Louisville.

McCarthy, who was talked about as someone who could make the Braves before Raul Mondesi and Brian Jordan were signed, is hitting .348/.421/.561 for Richmond. However, he’s probably behind Kelly Johnson in line for a job now.
