Bryan Harper has been promoted from Double-A Harrisburg to Triple-A Syracuse.
The older brother of reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper earned the promotion by registering a 1.50 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and 21/7 K/BB ratio over his first 24 innings this season at the Double-A level. He was a 30th-round pick of the Nationals in 2011 out of the University of South Carolina. Bryce was drafted first overall by the Nats in 2010.

Nationals pitching prospect Bryan Harper underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this month.
Bryce’s brother will be out until 2018. The 26-year-old held a 2.18 ERA between Double- and Triple-A this past season.

Nationals re-signed LHP Bryan Harper to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Harper, the older brother of Bryce Harper, missed the entire 2017 season after Tommy John surgery. The 28-year-old posted a strong 2.18 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 45 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A in 2016. Assuming he’s back to full strength, he has a shot at joining his brother in the majors at some point in 2018.

Bryan Kerr of MASN reports that Bryan Harper (elbow) has a chance to make the 2018 roster, and that could possibly help keep brother Bryce Harper long-term.
Harper pitched well in 2016 with a 2.18 ERA and 46 strikeouts in just over 41 innings between Double-A and Triple-A, but missed all of the 2017 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in November of that year. He’s a left-handed reliever who offers some deception, so he could be effective against left-handers. The brothers haven’t played on the same team since they were at College of Southern Nevada, but it would make sense that playing with a family member could give at least some incentive to Bryce wanting to return.
