If the Dodgers keep a platoon mate for Dave Roberts, it will probably Calvin Murray, not Chad Hermansen.
Murray is competing with Jolbert Cabrera, Terry Shumpert, Jason Romano, Ron Coomer and Larry Barnes for one or two open bench spots. Hermansen has been slow to recover from shoulder surgery and likely will be sent through waivers.

Cubs re-signed outfielder Calvin Murray to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Murray, 33, spent the final month of last season on the Cub bench after hitting .311/.368/.440 for Triple-A Iowa. If the team doesn’t bring in anyone better, he could compete with Rene Reyes, Peter Bergeron and Dave Kelton for a spot as a fifth outfielder. Another veteran could be signed, however.

Murray, a reserve outfielder for the Giants in 2000 and 2001, hit .260/.322/.385 for Triple-A Las Vegas last season. He should be just a part-time player for Triple-A Iowa this year.

Dodgers reassigned OF Calvin Murray, 1B Larry Barnes and RHP Bryan Corey to minor league camp.
Murray received more at-bats than any other Dodger this spring and played well, but the team decided not to carry a backup center fielder. As a result, it appears that David Roberts will get more time against left-handers and Brian Jordan could get a chance to play center on occasion.
