Mets purchased the contract of RHP Carlos Muniz from Triple-A New Orleans.
The Mets have no faith at all in Philip Humber as a reliever and the rest of the pen is tired, so Muniz will get a look after saving 23 games and posting a 2.45 ERA for Double-A Binghamton. Of course, if the Mets really thought the 26-year-old could help, they would have made this move weeks ago.

Mets optioned OF Cory Sullivan and RHP Carlos Muniz to Triple-A Buffalo; reassigned RHP Nelson Figueroa, C Rene Rivera and INF Andy Green to minor league camp
Sullivan started off hot, but he faded to .245/.327/.306, making Jeremy Reed an obvious choice over him for a bench job. Muniz and Figueroa are used to shuffling back and forth between Triple-A and the majors and could do it again this season.

Mets recalled RHP Carlos Muniz from Triple-A New Orleans.
In six appearances with the Mets earlier this season, Muniz allowed four runs in seven innings. He’s sporting a 3.18 ERA at Triple-A, with a 24/11 K/B ratio.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman
The New York Daily News reports that Luis Castillo will be placed on the disabled list with a strained left hip flexor.
Castillo played as a defensive replacement on Wednesday, so his 15-day stint will begin today. Damion Easley will see the majority of time in his absence. RHP Carlos Muniz is also expected to be sent to Triple-A, with OF Chris Aguila and 2B Argenis Reyes expected to be promoted from the minor leagues.

Mets optioned RHP Carlos Muniz to Triple-A New Orleans.
Muniz had allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings since returning to the majors last week, and he took the loss last night. The Mets probably won’t be in any hurry to bring him back.

Mets optioned RHP Carlos Muniz to Triple-A New Orleans.
The move was made to clear a spot on the roster for John Maine, who will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday and start for the Mets. Muniz had a 5.40 ERA in 23 1/3 innings of work for the Mets.

Mets recalled RHP Carlos Muniz from Triple-A New Orleans.
Muniz has a 5.40 ERA in 23 1/3 innings for the Mets this year. He’ll resume pitching in middle relief.
  • NYM 1st Baseman
Mets reassigned 1B Michel Abreu to minor league camp; optioned LHP Willie Collazo and RHP Carlos Muniz to Triple-A New Orleans.
Abreu went 2-for-14 with five strikeouts while helping to fill in for Carlos Delgado this month. Muniz should be an option for the pen later. He allowed an unearned run over three innings.
  • CWS Bullpen Coach
The New York Daily News reports that Matt Wise appears headed for the disabled list with right forearm stiffness.
Wise hasn’t pitched since giving up a walk-off home run against the Marlins last Tuesday, but doesn’t expect to miss significant time. “I’ve had three elbow surgeries, and this doesn’t feel like anything,” said Wise. The Mets are expected to call up Carlos Muniz to take his place.

Mets recalled RHP Carlos Muniz from Triple-A New Orleans.
Muniz wasn’t one of the final candidates for a bullpen spot in spring training, but he’s the first pitcher called up because he’s on the 40-man roster and some of the others aren’t. The 27-year-old pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs for the Mets at the end of last year.
