Pirates placed RHP Chase DeJong on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 13, with a lumbar strain.
The right-hander has been battling a lumbar spine muscle strain, and the Pirates felt it was best to just shut him down for a couple of weeks and let him heal up. Robert Stephenson was activated from the injured list to take his spot in the Pirates’ bullpen.

Chase De Jong blew a save in brutal fashion Wednesday versus the Reds.
De Jong entered in the top of the ninth with the Pirates leading 3-0 and promptly gave up a single and back-to-back homers as Cincinnati tied the game. Pittsburgh did manage to pull out a 4-3 win in the bottom of the 10th, but De Jong’s ugly performance left Bryse Wilson with a tough-luck no-decision following his career-best eight scoreless frames.

Chase De Jong was charged with four runs in the ninth inning on Sunday in a blown save against the Cardinals.
Not great. De Jong was brought on to guard a two-run lead in the ninth inning and wound up surrendering an RBI double to Corey Dickerson and a go-ahead two-run homer to Albert Pujols before being lifted from the frame. He also served up a solo shot to Tyler O’Neill before ending the calamitous frame.
