Christian Colon announced his retirement from professional baseball on Sunday.
Colon -- best known for his game-tying RBI single in the 12th inning of the American League Wild Card game with the Royals in 2014 -- slashed .249/.312/.310 with one homer, 28 RBI, six stolen bases and a 65/31 K/BB ratio across 418 plate appearances over his six-year big league career.

Blue Jays signed INF Christian Colon to a minor league contract.
Colon agreed to a deal back in February with the recently-renamed Kansas City Monarchs of the independent American Association, but he’ll now get another shot in MLB-affiliated ball. The soon-to-be 32-year-old infielder is a career .249/.312/.310 hitter in parts of six seasons (161 total games) at baseball’s highest level.

Christian Colon has agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Monarchs of the independent American Association.
Colon was selected fourth overall by the Royals in the 2010 MLB Draft and then won a World Series ring with the organization in 2015, so this will be a homecoming of sorts for the 31-year-old infielder, even though he’ll now be playing independent ball. He went 3-for-23 (.130) in limited action with the Reds last season.

  • TOR 2nd Baseman #29
Reds sent INF Christian Colon outright to their alternate training site.
Colon got designated for assignment by the Reds last week and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old utility infielder was 3-for-23 (.130) through 11 games played this season with Cincinnati.

  • TOR 2nd Baseman #29
Reds designated INF Christian Colon for assignment.
Colon was just 3-for-23 at the plate for the Redlegs this season. Tyler Thornburg is taking his roster spot.

  • KC 3rd Baseman #18
Mike Moustakas (quad) remained out of the Reds’ lineup Friday.
He hasn’t played since Tuesday due to a bruised left quad. Christian Colon is at second base. The Reds are also giving Joey Votto and Freddy Galvis days off, with Matt Davidson and Kyle Farmer filling in.

Christian Colon went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base to help the Reds to a win in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday over the Tigers.
Colon picked up the rare two-RBI infield single in the seventh inning. The steal was his first of the season, and he came around to score on a Aristides Aquino single. Colon has some value to the Reds because he can play all over the infield, but he doesn’t play enough -- and isn’t good enough -- to be a fantasy option.

  • KC 3rd Baseman #18
Mike Moustakas (forearm) is not in the Reds’ starting lineup for the second half of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Tigers.
Moustakas took a pitch off his left forearm in the early game and is presumably being run through imaging tests. Christian Colon will fill in at second base and bat seventh versus the Tigers and lefty Daniel Norris.

Reds purchased the contract of INF Christian Colon.
Colon and Matt Davidson were not included in the Reds’ initial 30-man roster submitted Thursday, but they’ve been added ahead of Friday’s opener. The former Royal will provide infield depth.

  • TOR 2nd Baseman #29
Reds re-signed INF Christian Colon to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Colon had a big season at Triple-A Louisville in 2019 and got a brief cup of coffee at the end of the year with the Reds. He’ll provide infield depth.
