Padres manager Bruce Bochy wants to use Clay Condrey as a reliever, but yesterday added him to the competition for the final rotation spot.

Condrey worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Francisco Cordova yesterday, so he is stretched out enough to be used as a starter at the beginning of the season. He’s not yet someone to consider as a $1 pick in NL-only leagues.

Condrey spent parts of 2002 and 2003 in the majors with the Padres, but the Phillies never called him up last season. He went 9-9 with a 5.46 ERA for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
