Padres manager Bruce Bochy wants to use Clay Condrey as a reliever, but yesterday added him to the competition for the final rotation spot.
Condrey worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Francisco Cordova yesterday, so he is stretched out enough to be used as a starter at the beginning of the season. He’s not yet someone to consider as a $1 pick in NL-only leagues.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher
Clay Condrey, who threw a simulated game yesterday, is to report to Triple-A Portland for a rehab assignment later this week.
Condrey has been out with an oblique strain since May 13.

Phillies optioned RHP Clay Condrey to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

  • MIN Relief Pitcher
Clay Condrey, scratched from his start today due to a strained groin, pitched an inning of relief and allowed two runs.
The Padres didn’t want to use Condrey, but after starter Dennis Tankersley failed to retire a batter, they didn’t have much of a choice.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher
Clay Condrey remains a candidate to start Wednesday for the Padres. A decision probably won’t be made until tomorrow.
Condrey had been scratched from the start due to a strained right groin, but he’s feeling better and there’s a slight chance that he’ll pitch. Mike Bynum is more likely to get the assignment.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher
Phillies re-signed RHP Clay Condrey to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Condrey spent parts of 2002 and 2003 in the majors with the Padres, but the Phillies never called him up last season. He went 9-9 with a 5.46 ERA for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
